and occasionally bringing up another man for me to meet! His chief, Mr. Lewis, has invited us for a car ride & lunch tomorrow at twelve. A bit early because we generally get up about twelve thirty. (I say generally -- and I've been here two days. ooh la! la!) Now to proceed -- when we reached Havre, I was much concerned because I couldn't see Conger on the dock, but it was all right because he had come on board under pretext of military business, and came down to my stateroom after me, just as I was waddling out with my suitcase. There was the awful waiting in line to have our passports examined and then we got on the train. Believe me, I paraded Conger about and had him meet the people I had cared
