A few days before the fourth we had some mail! French mail tho. None from the States. One letter was from the Plocques at Meaux. (And by the way, they are called Pluck, and not Plo-kay) Madame wrote a letter that nearly made us both weep. She offered in the most sincere way, to take care of us while we were away from our own country, and said "Let me be your Mother." Also she wanted to know the minute we were settled so she could send us garden truck fresh from Meaux, and she wanted to look after our linens for us so that they'd not be ruined by the laundry here. Imagine offering such a thing! This reminds me of a remark she made the day we took her and her daughter Margarete to tea. She pressed us with an invitation to visit Meaux - which we are going to accept soon. We, in turn, asked them to consider our home
