According to Mrs. Sanborn, who figured each thing separately as it happened, there was about $400 worth of service in the church. Then the men all marched around the coffin single file, and each in turn shook a think that looked like a fly swatter (but was really holy water) at the coffin Then they marched out to another room where they again encountered the receiving line. Then the women had to do the same thing. Then everyone, headed by the poor little widow who marched all alone, had to walk behind the hearse
