24 January 1945 Dear Folks, I was very pleased to get the two boxes of candy that you sent. Thanks a lot. The candy coated nuts were especially good. The idea of sending them in tins is really swell because they arrive in first class condition. Most of the cardboard packages are smashed before they arrive. Mother wrote me of your visit to Ames, wish I'd been there too. Sounds as if Early really had an interesting time over there. Something was said about Reeves and Alberta planning to get married. It sounds like a swell idea to me, I wish them the best of luck. We have been fairly busy the last month. We have dropped anchor now and will have it easy for a while. We received our first mail in a month so you know its been a happy day. We can also have movies out on deck at nites, any old thing is good entertainment out here. I did see some shows here before the folks did so you see they do get out here. I've been hoping to see Phil in some of these places, but there are many more they we may never
