impetuous or too slow and hesitating he is liable to be allowed to resign as they put it. All those who finish the next six weeks will probably get commissions in active service. Those who are best fitted will command the drafted troops and the others will act as assistants in the instruction of the drafted men, later getting the opportunity to command the second army. Most of us hope to be lieutenants, only, as we think the captaincies will be filled by older men and lieutenants from the regulars. I'll be mighty thankful if I get any commission at all as my competitions are picked men - mostly college graduates who have had business training since leaving school.
