36th Inf. Camp Devens, Mass. October 21, 1918 Dear Karl, I got your letter this afternoon and felt so ashamed of myself for not having written that I am going to sit down and write to you right this very night in spite of everything. You know I've been so blooming busy I've hardly written to anybody since I've been here. I've even had to wire Mother several times to keep her from worrying as I was so swamped that I just dropped in bed as soon as I got through work at night. I've had the paper work for a company besides my own platoon to take care of and in addition I've taken stiff courses in Bayonet and Physical Training, Automatic Arms, and Gas Defense the Division Infantry School of Arms. These course would take all of my time from seven thirty in the morning to five of five thirty in the afternoon with class work. I had to study outside and then do company duty (paper work) beside.
