Jan. 20, 1918 Dear Karl, Have a letter from Gwendolyn telling me that you are "going into the butter-business in Cedar Rapids - extremely definite." Mother had written that you were in some dairy products concern up there but I had not thought that the general address - Cedar Rapids would be sufficient. Gwenny says you have been properly informed of my transfer from Co "H" from "F" and I suppose she told you of the work here. But just so you'll have it straight I'll mention the main facts. Our battalion has been attached to the N.E. [Dept?] and half of it is here and half in Ft. Ethan Allen, near Burlington Vt. I got a mutual transfer with an officer who wanted to go to a regular post so now I'm doing provost guard duty.
