I suppose you had seem the lists of commissions so I won't bore you with a long talk. Most of the men who were still here got commissions. I know of but two "Iowa" men who lost out altogether. We have heard nothing in the R.O.T.C. about the case of meningitis except that there was one in the cantonment (where I'll be soon). I think proper sanitary precautions were taken in good time. A few of the men from the Reserve Corps get immediate overseas service. In the company next door there was an opportunity to volunteer but our instructor merely detailed his quota. I should have volunteered, of course, but so long as I didn't have the chance I am considering the increase in my effectiveness that should result from the additional training here this fall. The first week or two in the U.S.A. will probably teach me a lot of things about myself that I've never found out before. I'm only hoping that the disclosures will not be too painful. I suppose I'll see you within a few days and have an opportunity to discuss things more fully. R.M. Browning Lt. Inf. Sect 7 B.R.C.
