The officers of the 40th Inf. entertained the other officers of the post at a formal dance Saturday evening. Thanks to a W.W. order the field uniform is worn at all times, except White House receptions, during the war, so I was equipped. The gymnasium was very effectively decorated with big American flags and lots of goldenrod. That is one thing about the army. There are always prisoners in the guard house to do the work so that the decorating committee has only to decide what is to be done. The dance was a very pleasant surprise to me. Before I went I rather felt that I would feel my newness, but everybody was most cordial so that I was soon happily dancing with the prettiest girls, the captains wives, and the colonel's guests so that it came to be Sunday long before I wanted it to. (Did you ever see so many "so"s before in one place?) If you see the Dean you might tell him as much as you think best. Perhaps he would be interested. Fiske O'Hara is here in The Man from Wicklow, a most delightful romance. I enthusiastically recommend it, as I understand it is to be in Iowa City later. With greetings to your Mother and brother. Bob
