Hotel Harrington Washington, D.C., Dec. 21, 1918 Dear Miss Williams - I'm not sure whether or not I've answered your last letter as I was busy getting ready to go to France - and, since the armistice, to go to four or five other places rumor has had us detailed for that I don't know how many sins of ommission I may be responsible for now. The second battalion of the "Hard boiled Thirty-Sixth" has been designated for special duty in the N.E. Department under command of Maj. Gen. Edwards of Dept. Hq. One company (E) is now in Boston and one (G) is in Ft. Ethan Allen, Vt. The other two companies, (F & H) are expecting orders at any time. I packed my stuff before I left so it could be moved in my absence in case something turns up. Just now I'm beginning an eight day leave. I spent part of the day in Philadelphia much to my profit.
