page 20. [underlined] NEW BOOK RELEASES [/underlined] [decorative border] In his scholarly new volume, [underlined] "African Artifacts" [/underlined] the author John Bristol follows the development of the [underlined] speer [/underlined] on the Dark Continent. From the meagre evidence obtainable, Professor Bristol cleverly deduces that the speer first made its appearance on the northern coast. At that time it was narrow, occasionally rather dull, yet usually possessed of a penetrating quality. From this early form, the author traces the evolution of the speer to its present more modern form whence it appears considerably broadened, and far more keen. Of particular interest are the frequent sidelights on the social impact of the speer on the native life and culture, and its probable future influence on the development of the dusky inhabitants of that part of the world. [underlined] "Circle To Oblivion", presents a comprehensive history of the rise and fall of the Cult Of Superfan on the North American continent. Beginning with the first appearance of the prophet and high priest, Cloud Digger, it traces the rapid spread of the weird cult, giving particular attention to its spectacular and abrupt decline. Considerable space is devoted to Cloud Digger's early activities in what was once the state of Indiana; and the final chapter tells of recent investigations in certain barren sections of Arizona where finds of rock, sand, and sagebrush, throw a great deal of light on the whole subject. Students of bizarre and primitive superstitions and beliefs, will find this work to contain a wealth of valuable material in line with their studies. [drawing left] cactus with rabbit peeking from behind [/drawing left] [underlined] "Rhythmics And Ra" [/underlined], by Doctor Dough Arty. This book is a careful and painstaking study of the evolution of the dance in the Land of the Pharaohs. Commencing with early Little Egypt, the learned doctor follows and explains the development and increasing complexity of rhythmic expression and worship, clear up to the present Egotgypt. A strangely moving work, worthy of investigation. [decorative border]
