Page 4 FA--March 1942 [HECTOGRAPHED?] MATTER S F Check List #7 Freehafer: An excellent continuation of an endless project. Koenig: "The Swishers" deserve the thanks of every reader and collector of fan magazines for the time and effort spent in compiling their checklists. On the other hand, the way the list keeps increasing should be somewhat discouraging to collectors. A high spot, as always. Horizons Dec. 1941 Freehafer: Much more legible this time. Now that I can read it, I like it very much. Koenig: Okay; I look upon Editor Warner as the official reviewer of the magazines. His comments on fan magazines are always interesting, to say nothing of his lengthy notes on thevarious pro magazines. Gallery of the Gods #1 Freehafer: Very amusing. Koenig: Looks as though Chauvenet wasted a lot of time preparing a cover for something that didn't deserve a cover. (sorry--ed.) *****Erratum: This should have been included under the heading 'Mimeographed Matter' SUSTAINING PROGRAM Winter 1941 Freehafer: (No comment) Koenig: Tough going; but a good issue never-the-less. Speer's comments on Astounding stories made interesting reading. I do wish he would learn the art of brevity. SUMMATIONS: Freehafer: A fairly satisfactory mailing, not as large as it might be, however. There seems to be a growing predominance of the subjective type of fan magazine in FAPA, though for such an organization I don't think that is a tendency to be deplored. Koenig: Not a particularly impressive mailing; either in quality or quantity. Less than 40 per cent of the membership represented; a rather dismal showing. Sustaining Program, Horizons, Sound Off, Nucleus and Check List led the parade. NOonementionedtheinterlineationsinthelasttwoAmateurs;whatdoesthispro EDITOR'S BOMBSHELTER I promise to secure correcting fluid before I stencil the next Amateur. I have none now. Also, the time I can spend cutting stencils is drastically limited by the imminence of an exam period at the U of Va. Hence the sloppiness of the typing thruout. If there is no membership list and Treas.' report, it will be because none was received in time. Changes from last listings are: Reinsberg has dropped out; Al and Abby Lu Ashley have been admitted as new members. This is being stencilled February 27th, as it must be sent to Karry Warner for mimeoing, and the mailing is due out Mar. 7th. I have funny ideas about sending the mailing out exactly when it is supposed to go out, you see------------ L.R. Chauvenet
