** "A Prophet Has No Honor" ***** JINX ****************** Page 3 " A Prophet has no honor" by Curtis Carlyle The clarion trumpet calls rang thruout the length and breadth of the gaudily furnished hall. Ladies in filmy dresses that sparkled in the fluroscent overhead lighting turned to unsteady companions to smile and titter. Once again the trumpets sounded and all eyes turned to the little green door that sparkled with inlaid jewels. The heralds moved to the door with deliberate steps and opened it wide. For a moment one could glance into the hall beyond. There were busts along the wall in little alcoves. Hidden lights lighted the outstanding features of one named Napoleon and another with a little black moustache. Two guards appeared, marching proudly, goose-stepping, looking neither to left or right. Their red uniforms were dotted with yellow buttons & a green, silk-like cape hung across their straight shoulders. On those capes there was a purple Maltese cross, the symbol of Charles IV, Grand Emperor of the Combined Kingdoms of Asia and Europe. Behind those two guards trudged a man with lowered head and tattered garments. The chains about his legs clanked dismally as he stumbled. A courtesan stopped waving her fan long enuf to laugh aloud as a guard prodded the stumbling figure with the end of a sword. Down a long carpet they marched and at last they stopped. The two guards in front bowed, about-faced smartly and walked back to their prisoner. One of the guards sneered at the chained man and shoved him forward, tripping him on the heavy chains. A little trickle of red appeared over his right eye as he turned his face towards the figure on the throne in front of him. Charles IV popped a grape in his mouth, folded his hands over his huge stomach and laughed as he waved his hand to the guard. The guard who seemed to be in command turned to the assemblage. "John Witte, formerly Captain in His Most Gracious Majesty's Exploration Detachment has been found guilty of treason
