Saving...
through these tormenting times. "If you talk with any of the men about us tell them that we love them and are working that their sacrifice may not have been entirely in vain." (MRS.) DAVID NEWTON NOTE: The above splendid explanation of the views of these Conscientious Objectors does not entirely coincide with that of the publisher of this magazine, although it does in many respects, as I am a lover of, and desirer for, peace and Brotherhood. However, I do think that it is a sin and a disgrace that in this Christian (?!) country, which pretends to pride itself on the freedoms enjoyed by its citizens, men who happen not to believe just as do the leaders, can be treated so harshly as are these C. O.'s. Imagine, they are segregated in camps, often imprisoned, worked hard and long without any pay whatsoever or any provision made for the sustenance of their families, merely because they believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Man of Peace, and dare to practice His teachings in time of war. Why, we even pay war prisoners of our enemies, when they do any work! I raise my lowly voice to cry SHAME! on our leaders who so persecute them! [Signed] E. Everett Evans 15
