Henry Matz returned home from Camp Dodge the fore part of the week, having received his discharge Mr. And Mrs. Sim Henkle of near Early Chapel spent Tuesday at the home of her sister Mrs. C.B. Stanley Homer Myers of Jolly, Iowa was in Dexter last week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Postlewait. Mr. Postlewait accompanied him home for a few days visit. Floyd Taylor arrived in Dexter Friday evening from Camp Dodge, where he had been for several days since returning from over seas. He has received his discharge. Mr. and Mrs. J.H Allref and children of Redfield and Mrs. Allred's mother Mrs. Belle Gadis who has been visiting at the Allred home were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Gunter Maurice and Marjorie Neal entertained seventy of their chums Thursday Jan. 30th at a party complimetary to Miss LaBlanch Farmer of Ames, The home was decorated with red hearts and valentines. The games throughout the evening were in keeping with St. Valentine Day Little Loraine Sherman celebrated her fifth birthday on Wednesday of last week by entertaining about fifteen of her little friends. The guests enjoyed the blowing of bubbles and other games. After the little hostess opened her many gifts received she helped serve refreshments of pop corn balls, ice cream and the birthday cake. Rogan and little daughter Maxine spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Earlham visiting with her mother Mrs. Duff Word reached Dexter yesterday morning that Harry Cline of Earlham, died Tuesday night from the effects of Flu-pneumonia. Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church will hold their annual praise meeting in the church Parlors, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'ckock Feb. 12 A returned Soldier from France was recently asked the question "which was the most dangerous artillery fire or machine gun fire. The soldier considered the one which hit you the most dangerous H.F. Lenocker who had been making his home at Marion, Kansas has been in Dexter several days visiting with relatives. He is on his way to the Eastern part of Iowa where he will make his home. Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Brown had as their guests last week Mr. and Mrs. Jas Baird of Winterset. Mr. and Mrs. Mae Junkin and twin daughters and Mr and Mrs. Elmer Bissell all residing near Winterset Under the heading "Training Little Children" in this week's issue you will find an excellent article on this subject. We consider it especially fine, and anyone interested in the training of their children will find it of untold value if they practice the teaching. R.Ed. Murphy, one of Dexters efficient mail carriers, who held a public sale last Friday on the farm which he has been occupying, West of town moved to Dexter Tuesday. By their removal from College Corner we loose one of our best correspondence and we trust someone will volunteer to write the College Corner items. Ellis Gladdis, a former employee of the Sentinel, but for the past eighteen months a member of Uncle Sam's forces in America and France was in Dexter last Friday evening and Saturday morning visiting with the E H. Gunter family and renewing old Dexter acquaintances. Ellis informs us that his company had finished their training and was waiting their orders to go to the front, which they expected in a few days when the armistice was signed.
