71 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE,PHILA. NOV. 16TH. Eddie Dovoe-12 mins.-Gar. in 2-close in one-Tramp acrobat and contortionist, with a little barrel jumping, which received some applause. The comedy does not amount to much, but the act is all right for an opener. Barr & Evans-[18?] mins.-C.D.F. in [?]-Man and woman, billed for a rural comedy sketch. Man's comedy is not above the average. The woman's natural [stoutines?] and makeup, with a queer laugh, gets many laughs. The act seemed to please greatly in spots, and can be called fair throughout. Howard & Harris-18 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-close in one-Man and woman. Howard makes up as Happy Hooligan. Comedy sketch. The [ma cup?] of the character is better than the ordinary and the comedy received many laughs. Sketch went well throughout and can be classed as good. Wait of 3 minutes from Stephens. Howley & Leslie-20 mins. in one-Man and woman, singing and dancing specialties. Dancing, very good; woman's juvenile imitation went very well; audience seemed to like the whole act. Herbert Brooks-16 mins.-Dra. in one-C.D.F. - in 2,-Card manipulator, with mystifying trunk tricks;has an entertaining "little" act, which served to fill in the time nicely, but he is not expert at palming cards, and he resorts to the waving of the American flag for applause on his card work. His trunk trick is very mystifying, and the audience seemed satisfied throughout the act. Joe Maxwell & Co.-22 mins.,-Spec. Set in 3-close in one-Five men, in Maxwell's well known fireman's act. The audience applauded some of the songs. Lillian Burkhart & Co.-C.D.F. in 3-Four people-two men-in a sketch "The Santa Claus Lady." The comedy in the first part of the sketch as mostly local to New York, and a great deal of it was not understood by our audience. The jokes nearly all dealt with New Your men and affairs. Miss Burkhart is always clever. Her company is better than the one she brought here last. The last half of the sketch is pathetic, and our audience seemed to like Miss Burkhart better in comedy. Do not think on a whole our audience liked it as well as her last offering. Another wait for the Vassars. Eight Vasser Girls-22 mins.-Drapers in one - Garden in [5?]-Second week. The work on the brass instruments and the light effects at the close seemed to go as strong as last week. Another wait for Duncan. A. O. Duncan-15 mins.-C.D.F. in 2-close in one.--In his well known ventriloquial act; always makes good, especially with his local jokes--at which he is an artist. Taffery's Dogs-12 mins.-Gar. in -3; a very good dog act. Quigley Bros.-[18?] mins. in one --two men, cross fire talk; first time here since the opening of the house; have some very brilliant, and received many laughs.
