73 Keith's Bijou - criticism - Nov. 16th, 1903. JOHN D. GILBERT: Drapery in one; 19 minutes. first real reception of the day. Doing his familiar monologue act in his eccentric make up. Gilbert did not go so well as usual this afternoon, not seeming to catch his audience until near the close of the act. However, his close was very good, and probably as strong as he has ever gone in this vicinity. 2 shows. BIMM, BOMM, BRRR: Garden in 3, close one. Two men and a woman, all dressed as men in what might be called colonial costumes, in a novelty musical act. Their playing on various instruments was very good and got the audience right this-afternoon, introducing several novel musical effects and closing on cornets. Went very strong and earned several recalls. 2 shows. WATSON, HUTCHINGS, EDWARDS & CO: C.D. Plain chamber in 3; 24 minutes, in what is probably one of the poorest constructed sketches in vaudeville to-day. By the introduction of several specialties, which give life to the act, and some nonsensical novelties they got the audience quickly, and at the close it was nothing but a scream, easily the laughing hit of to-day's bill. 2 shows. FISHER & CARROLL: Street in one; 18 minutes. The same act they have previously done over the circuit with a few slight changes. Were well received and went very well in this hard place on the bill. 2 shows. MONTROSE TROUPE: Palace in 4; 9 minutes. Six male acrobats in some very clever and difficult acrobatic work, which went very strong here this-afternoon. Mr. Nash states, however, that in his opinion the act is not so strong as that of the original troupe. 2 shows. BIOGRAPH: A stronger show than usual, especially in the comedy section. COMMENT: This week's show is one of the strongest we have yet had, being very well balanced and seeming, at least in the estimation of this-afternoon's audience, to be strong in every department. Not one act of the whole bill but was received with good applause to-day, and many of them going very strong indeed before the largest Monday audience we have played to since the reopening. With such a bill as this there is hardly a doubt but that our business will keep up to the standard of last week and hardly any doubt but that it will show considerable improvement. E.P. Lyons.
