106 NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF DECEMBER 14th. KR -3-MARTIN & QUIGG.--A tall man and a short man in a comedy talking, singing, and dancing act which is rather ordinary. The act is almost too well known to need any special comment It will do all right once in a while as an opener and that is about all. 16 minutes in one. AR -3- C. 2. SANDERSON.-- Comedy pianist. This fellow does a very good act indeed. His piano work is good and he has an easy manner and keeps up a running fire of conversation which adds materially to the turn. It is a very good three-show-a-day act. 12 minutes, full stage. HR -3 ROSA LEE TYLER.-- A young and rather pretty octoroon girl who has a voice which has evidently been cultivated to some extent and which she handles very well indeed. Some of the tones are rather metallic, but her execution is rather brilliant and she made good this afternoon in fine shape. 12 minutes in one. ER -3--EDDIE & NETTIE MASSE.-- A man and a woman in a comedy juggling act. They do a very good act indeed from an early-in-the-bill standpoint. All jugglers that I have ever known from the highest to the lowest have their off-days, and these people had one today, but any one could see that the tricks they do are entirely within their reach when they are in their normal condition, and they made a very favorable impression, and it is entirely safe to say that it is a good act. 13 minutes, full stage. Can close in one if necessary. HR -3- CHRIS LANE.--A young fellow in a song, parody, and a little bit of talking act. He doesn't do a very brilliant turn, but in the present scarcity of three-show-a-day acts I think he is all right in an early part of the bill. He has one of those stories built up on the titles of different plays which is good, and he sings one or two songs that are not at all bad and can be rated as fairly good. 13 min. in one. GHR -2- LAVENDER & TOMSON.-- A man and a woman in a sketch called "The Touch Down," so named because the man appears as a foot-ball player and a great deal of the talk in the early part of the act savors of the game. They have got a very good act this time filled with bright material and a great many of the expressions that he uses got a lot of laughs. It is a really good act. 20 minutes, full stage. GYH -2- JOHN & BERTHA GLEESON.-- In a straight dancing act, probably one of the best dancing acts in this country and they are both excellent dancers. The only trouble with the act is that the woman maintains such a confoundedly sober face. She does not seem to be capable of smiling at all, but I suppose that is a technicality that the audience does not pay so much attention to. At all events, it is a mighty good act. 11 minutes in one. HRR -2-FADETTE ORCHESTRA.--It is beyond question the greatest attraction in the musical line in this country, and that is about all that it is necessary for me or any one else to say. It went very strong indeed, and did about 35 minutes when I only had them timed for 30. As an expression of my own personal opinion, I think they are making altogether too much of a central figure of the drummer. They have her way up in the air now and the orchestra thrown to each side of the stage, so that she is the conspicuous feature of the whole outfit, and it seems to me that it takes away to a certain extent from the unassuming appearance of the whole ensemble which was such a distinguishing and pleasing feature during their former engagement. In other words, it is plainly evident that it is done for effect. Just to what extent the audience may notice it, I am unable to say, and I only mention it as my private opinion, not, of course, to be included in the criticism that goes outside of the circuit. I made no attempt to change it because it is possible that I am the only person to whom it may have that appearance.
