152 (F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Jan. 8, 1906 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 5 min. in 1--Usual selection of interesting home and foreign views. Hy Greenway, 3 shows, 12 min. in 3--Comedy juggler and cartoonist. Been described in the other houses. Satisfactory 3-a-day act that went very well in this spot. Leo Carrillo, 3 shows, 14 min. in 1--Mimetic comedian, with a very pleasing personality. His work is nothing extraordinary, but with his personality, it makes a good 3-a-day act of this sort. Cut "No camel here". Valveno Bros. 3 shows, 5 min. full stage--Acrobats and equilibrists. As always with acts of this sort, they went extremely well. It seems to me as though it would be possible for them to crowd more than 8 minutes in the act and with 3 or 4 minutes added to it, it would be a good act to repeat. Solomon 11, 3 shows, 16 min. in 1--Lightning caculator whose talk and appearance reminds one of Marshall P. Wilder. His manner is decidedly abrupt and sharp and I have asked him to tone it down a little. Caused considerable wonderment today and all of his work was strongly applauded. I supposed this man was doing 3-shows, but this afternoon he showed me the contract calling for 2-shows, although he agreed to three for me this week. I would call it a good act for the 3-show section but think it should be kept there. Lillian Shaw, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--Vocal comedienne. Most of her work was new, including an imitation of Katie Barry, which did not go as strongas some of her work has on previous occasions. She did not by any means go bad and I consider it a good act for the early 2-show division for this house. Hickey & Nelson, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--In their comedy specialty, "Twisted and Tangled". While this act scored considerable laughter in this spot in the bill, I am positive, from the fact of its being so well known here, that it would be impossible for me to move it down and make good. Luigi Del'Oro, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--European novelty instrumentalist. Been commented on in the other houses. All of his selections were strongly applauded and it may be considered a good act for the early 2-show division. Pat Rooney and Marion Bent, 2 shows, open in 3, close in 1--In comedy and acrobatic specialties; Rooney got quite an advance reception and his dancing was the big feature of the act. Miss Bent is pretty but that is practically all she contributes to the value of the act. Closed very strong being obliged to,respond to two heart encores. applause throughout. I think these people should be gotten after, as I see no reason why they should drop their time from what they did last year and at the figure they should do more time. Kinetograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1--Showing the following list of interesting motion pictures: 1. Everybody Works But Father. Good comedy subject. 2. The Fire Cascade. Pretty colored film. 3. The Barnstormers. Good comedy. Smith and Baker, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--Two men, comedians and dancers. Of fair 3-show value and I should not care to see them much higher on the bill. Comment:- This show worked snappy all through but there was considerable falling off in time. We had practically a full house today. I cannot say that our "topliner" made good by any means. Still, if it was to be used for the early 2-show act, I do not think it would fall down. I have every reason to believe that patrons of Keith's, Boston, pay unusual attention to our advertising, and for that reason is to be laid the credit for the Sphere act being a failure in the spot today.
