New York Criticism--Jan. 15th, 1906 THE LUCIERS: Man and woman, in a Yankee comedy sketch: Consisting os singing, dancing and instrumental work. The violin imitations went very strong. A pleasing three-show act. 17 min.-full stage-(close in one about 3 min)- 3 shows CARL VICTOR: Physical Culture. Opens in a canopy posing, which they seemed to appreciate. He then lifts several weights and manages to score some applause for his strong work. At the price act is alright for an opener. 10 min. in two- 3 shows MIACO & IDALENE: Man and woman. In an acrobatic and contortion act. Man portrays an eccentric character. His comedy is fair. Woman makes a pleasing appearance and is a pretty fair contortionist, but a little awkward,. Act on the whole is bad. 11 min.-full stage- 3 shows MAY DURYEA & W. A. MORTIMER: In their sketch: "The Imposter." The act remainsthe same as presented here last Fall. They had the first chance at them to-day, therefore it was easy sailing. Act went just as strong as before. Laughter throughout. 28 min.-full stage- 2 shows EDDIE MACK: Novelty Dancer. Pleasing dancing act, although short. 6 min. in one- 3 shows BURTON & BROOKES: In their talking and singing comedy:-"Always in the Way." This act went good in spots. The Jury did not care much for them until they got down to their parody singing, when they seemed to please a little. This is one of the acts that should be put on the "retired list." It is long and tiresome. 22 min. full stage- (close in one about 6 min.) 2 shows KENO, WALSH & MELROSE: Comedy Gymnasts. Received quite a number of laughs. Acrobatic work appauded throughout. 13 min. full stage- 2 shows CARROLL JOHNSON: Blackface Monologuist. This man gave us a new act, although they didn't seem to enthuse any, until he gave his description of the prize fight when he got them very strong. 23 min. in one- 2 shows ALICE PIERCE: Impressionist. Received some advance applause. A thorough artiste. All of her imitations were strongly applauded. Took three bows on the finish. 15 min. full stage (about 2 min. in one) children. The comedy is good, but some parts of the film is rather fakey. NOTE: -The Misses Delmore reported sick this morning. Presume they will be in shape to go on to-morrow. The show is a wee bit ahead of last week. It is a genuine ideal summer bill.
