PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JAN. 29. 1906. C.E. BARNS. DELMAR BROS.--Comedy acrobats and barrel-jumpers. One works straight, the other comedy. A very good opener. Acts quite expert and receive a very good reception. The comedy element of the Rice & Prevost order. 11 min. in 1. 3 sh CONLON & HASTINGS.--Comedy Sketch, introducing singing and talking specialties. Woman has a pleasing appearance, singing with prevision and in good style. Partner has neither voice nor training to match her musical abilities but he is something of a comedian, though not very original in his humor. Man ages to get by acceptably. Act needs coaching up. 17 min. in 3. MINNIE HARRISON.--(Ahead of foregoing on bill). Singing comedienne. Has a brilliant voice and petite figure, well gowned. Songs well chosen. Each number received liberal applause. 10 min. in 1. KERN'S DOG.--Varied his act slightly by introducing a song which he sang passably. Dog's mimicry no better nor worse than previously. 10 in 1. Drapery. REDFORD & WINCHESTER.--Expert jugglers in burlesque. Good house-warmer,. being swift and expert, the comedy part being very good. The hoop-rolling especially worthy of comment. Also catching apples, cabbages, potatoes and other articles on end of form held in teeth. Applause and laughter constant to a swift finish. Strongly recommended for this place. Spec. drop in 4. 13m. Cuts ordered:-- Throwing apples to and from Gallery. Using lighted torches. Making bluff to throw basket of apples to audience. STEPHEN GRATTAN & MAUDE WHITE.--"Locked Out at Three A.M." Well received as before, though not an act to arouse great enthusiasm. Lines are bright and well delivered. Very worthy little playlet and commendable for this place on the bill. Carry own drops, 2. Cut out of Grattan's lines, "Oh, the Devil!" JOHN BIRCH.--"The Man with the Hats." Burlesque melodrama. Went on rather lamely, but increased in interest through sheer force of spirit. Received some few scattered laughs, but the shower of hats at the close brought applause. Over-estimated. 15 min in Olio. (Ahead of foregoing on bill). ANDERSON & GOINES.--Colored team and one of the best we have had. Lines clever and they otherwise prove themselves natural comedians. Laughs frequent, and at close get two curtain-calls. Excellent feature of coon variety, clean and never dull. 11 min in 1. MA CARTE SISTERS.-- Wire artists, etc. Three very pretty girls in stunning make-up, doing a very chic dance and following up with work on the wire and trapeze that is both artistic and skilful. The close when one of them does a butterfly dance on the wire held by the other two by the teeth, played upon by revolving lights, beautiful and strongly applauded. Girls have an air of all praise. Audience applauded roundly. 18 min. Special in 5. KINETOGRAPH.-- WINTER IN NIAGARA.-- A beautiful Series. NO CHILDREN ALLOWED.--A rapid and amusing series, with many humorous situations and interest to the close. Will go well here. GENERAL REMARKS.--Regard this as a very good bill on the whole, and suited to our audiences. Too much two-a-day and not enough three-a-day material, as usual to help out supper-show. House show little diminution from Houdini furor, all three floors filled to capacity, the two upper floors shut off only a little later than during Houdini's phenomenal business.
