Saving...
Smith & Campbell. On at 9.02, 21 min, in 1. They gave us almost entirely a new act and scored strongly. Rice & Cohen. On at 9.23, 25 min, full stage. Went very well, some of the bright lines in the sketch winning a lot of laughs. I would like to see them in a better vehicle, one thoroughly worthy of them, for it is my belief that their present sketch does not bring their full abilities into play by any means. Ethel Levey. On at 9.48, 12 min, in 1. Three Hundred for what she can do, four hundred for the newspaper notoriety she has had, is about the way I would split her salary. I think we have several comediennes who are far cleverer than Miss Levey. I know for a fact that Nora Bayes and Trixie Friganza both made higher scores here than she. Notoriety is what has made her a headliner. Four Casting Dunbars. On at 10-o'clock, 10 min, full stage. One of the best of the casting acts, the comedy introduced adding considerably to its value. Thoroughly all right as a closing act. Kinetograph. On at 10.10, 20 min. "Amateur Photographer", good comedy film. "Bob Sleigh Running", "Ski Racing", "Spot at the Telephone", held over from last week because they made good last week and also they were far superior to the films sent me for this week. Comment. This show lacks novelty, and while it plays well, does not move with the snap and swing that I like to have. Business this week will depend on the weather and on Ethel Levey's ability to make good as a drawing-card. No cuts.
