Saving...
(Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of March 9, 1908. (Monday March 9--Afternoon Show) Overture. 1.30, 12 minutes. Saona. On at 1.42, 11 min, full stage, 3 shows. One of the best 3-show acts we play. Can hold a good spot, number three or four, in any of the smaller houses. His impersonations are very well done. He has added some new ones since here last, notably Denman Thompson as "Josh Whitcomb". William Craven. On at 1.53, 11 min, in 1; 3 shows. While his appearance is a trifle amateurish, he certainly can play the accordion in a masterly manner, and it his price is one of the finds of the season. Lind. On at 2.04, 9 min, full stage; special set. While he is an artist, and one of the best female impersonators we have ever played, still I do not think that it would be wise to play him again for two or three seasons. The novelty of his act has worn off; and the surprise at the finish is anticipated by nine-tenths of the audience. However, in cities where he has never been seen, he could be made a headliner and would make good. Le Roy and Woodford. On at 2.13, 18 min, in 1. Went just as well as ever, although I doubt if Le Roy has added three new jokes to his routine in the last ten years. He certainly has a wonderful faculty of getting away with old material. The act is always a sure-fire hit here. The Military Octette. On at 2.31, 20 min full stage, 4 min close in 1; 24 min in all. While this act went fairly well, I do not think it is in anywhere near as good shape as last season. It was formerly particularly good, from a scenic stand-point, but it has gone to seed in this respect. Another act that repeated visits has made too familiar. Bobby Pandur and Brother. (3- minute wait, occasioned to complete their set.) On at 2.58, 17 min, full stage. A very good novelty gymnastic act which could be improved by cutting out some of the extraneous matter. It seems to me that they now try to do too much. Bobby Pandur's posing at the finish is quite effective, as he has a superb physique. He told me that the act would run much quicker tonight and would blend better, so we are awaiting this evening's show before doing any pruning. Lillian Tyce. On at 3.15, 11 min, in 1. Singing four Irish songs, only one of which is new. While she did fairly well with the audience, she by no means fulfilled the promise she gave some three years ago of developing into one of the best of our single women in 1. [Text hidden by leaf covering it; text continues below overleaf] Two neat-appearing and well-dressed young people in songs and dances, with the accent on the dances. Could not hold a spot in our 2-a-day section. Wise and Milton. On at 5.20, 14 min full stage, 4 min close in 1; 18 min in all. Can do the entire act in 1, if necessary. 3 shows. An excellent coon act that always makes good with us. [Text hidden by leaf covering it; text continues below overleaf] H Lillian Tyce I W. C. Fields J Three Renards K Nat M.
