MARCH 9, 1908. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E.BARNS. L. WATERS:-Magician:- 15 min. in 2, close in 1. On at 7:15. This man is quite expert in doing such regulation tricks as bringing flags out of torn paper, etc. Labors a little under the difficulty of not being able to speak English fluently. Received good hand after his ring tricks. Makes good act for seating the house. BINNS, BINNS & BINNS: Musical:- 18 min. F.S. On at 7:35. This act went even better than previously in this house. The musical features have improved, the comedy remains about the same. Two men are costumed in a most grotesque manner, the thid as a lackey. The low comedy is some times a little bit coarse, but there is no mistaking the fact that the audience liked the act and gave it good attention and applause. The finishing stunt with the sleigh bells under the coats is very laughable and won tremendous hand and a curtain call. DILLON BROTHERS, Parodists:- 15 min. in 1. On at 7:53. Advance hand. A lot of new parodies, some of which are a little coarse, but the audience seemed to approve and gave them good applause. The second Dillon remains rather in the background and the act might be called "Dillon and his Shadow". The finish was good, with one curtain call. CHARLES LEONARD FLETCHER, Impers:- 33 min. F.S. On at 8:08. Gave strong impersonations of Mark Twain, Geo. Bernard Shaw, Uriah Heap, and several Mansfield characters, All of them were listened to with rapt attention and thoroughly appreciated. Rewarded with good applause. Think this act will draw big business to the house this week. Fletcher makes up on the stage, which fact adds not a little to the interest of his various impersonations. The closing act in one, impersonation of Charles Warner, listening at the telephone and realizing the murder of his wife and child, fifty miles away, is very thrilling and melodramatic. It got tremendous hand. ALCIDE CAPITAINE, Aerialiste: - 9 min. F.S. On at 8:41. Mighty pretty sight act. Uses double trapeze with a ladder across supports above, across which she walks suspended by her toes. Whereas some of her feats are not so daring and thrilling as many we have seen here, nevertheless they are pleasing and got applause. The finishing feat on a single strand of rope got good hand. Closed very well indeed. MURRAY SISTERS, Voc:- 16 min. in 1. On at 8:50. These two girls make very pretty appearance in two stunning changes of costume. Suffer a little bit in not having new songs. However, received a good stiff hand after each selection. Closing number sung with assistance of a boy in the balcony quite won the house which clamored for an encore. RICHARD GOLDEN & CO:- "A Case of Divorce":- 25 min. F.S. On at 9:06. This is a great rural sketch. The part of the old "Squire" as taken by Golden, contains more humor than Cressy's old rustic lawyer, and was a distinct hit. There is mingled pathos and humor all the way through the play, which is brilliantly written. The act was frequently interrupted with applause and laughter. The finish was big, with five curtain calls. This is one of the star sketches in all Vaudeville. GENERAL REMARKS;- The public votes this bill one of the best of the season. There is abundance of comedy, and no disappointments. GOLDEN and FLETCHER both proved in their acts the strength of their recommendations. MYERS & ROSA and KEENE & ADAMS both surprised us with the strength of their offering and deserve to be looked after. The papers were divided this morning on the strongest hits: some claiming GOLDEN, others FLETCHER, one ROONEY & BENT, one MURRAY SISTERS, and the North American put MYERS & ROSA in a display head. This is the first time one of our three-a-day acts has had that distinction. This week's show will get the crowd all right, even if it is LENT and fair weather.- CUTS & OBJECTIONS:- DILLON BROTHERS:- Substitute something in place of song "Pull down the Blinds"- FRANCIS & ROGERS:- "Schlitz--"
