Saving...
(Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of March 23, 1908. (Monday March 23--Afternoon Show) Overture. 1.30, 7 min. Espo, Dutton and Espo. On at 1.37, 11 min, full stage; 3 shows. A very good comedy sight act. They are equilibrists, unicyclists and cannon-ball jugglers, two of them in comedy make-up. This act is bound to grow, for the men are much above the average as acrobats, and their comedy is fairly good. Far beyond the 3-a-day limit. Can open or close small-city shows. Francis and Rogers. On at 1.48, 13 min, in 1; 3 shows. Man and woman in a conventional singing and dancing act. The man is a fair singer, but apologies are necessary for the woman. It is hard to find any reason for the existence of this offering. They will be buried the rest of the week. Carter-Taylor Company. On at 2.01, 14 min, full stage. Simply a bunch of junk. How it has gone over the circuit is mystery to me. I suppose the answer is that it does not do any harm, but it certainly has no merit. Frosini. On at 2.15, 10 min, in 1. His billing, "The Wizard of the Accordion", tells the story truthfully. He is certainly a marvel, and scored heavily today. Jean Clermont's Circus Parody. On at 2.25, 18 min, full stage. This act is an enigma. It just falls short of being a great turn, for it seems to lack continuity and a climax. The animals used are well trained and do some very novel stunts. It does not seem to me that it is fast enough in action to make a good closing act, and it is certainly overpaid. Personally, I think Sammy Watson skins it to death. An excellent feature for the juveniles. Countess Rossi and Mons. Paulo. On at 2.43, 16 min, in 1. Scored a hit this afternoon and could hold a much better spot in the bill. The Countess looks well and sings well. Paulo's work in the box is very good, and his duets with the Countess are very well done. Ryan and Richfields. On at 2.59, 24 min, full stage. Playing "Mike Haggerty's Daughter", for the first time in this house. Their first visit here in two years. They were warmly received, and scored a strong hit. Hibbert and Warren. On at 3.23, 13 min, in 1. These boys have improved since last here, and are capable of holding almost any spot on the bill. Their finish was very, very strong. At $150. this act is one of the biggest bargains we have on the books. girl and boy are both capital dancers. They are to do a dancing act in 1 for us the remainder of the week, as they have been moved up the bill in place of Francis and Rogers. Cuts:- M. Clermont, has been requested to omit having his rooster lay an egg. Geraldine McCann and Company. "Bitter end" gag. Comment. This show seemed to go very well with this afternoon's audience, although I consider it considerably short of an ideal program, as there are two or three acts in it that would never be missed. However, they are not in important spots, I am glad to state.
