30. MARCH 23, 1908. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. NESSEN & NESSEN:-Hoops & Clubs:- 16 min. F.S. On at 7:01. 3 shows. This is a good act. Got applause all the way through the act. Is well dressed and showmanlike. Makes an acceptable opener for any house. McGRATH & PAIGE, Banjoists:- 13 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:17. This is a skilful and pleasing act. Miss Paige is pretty and plays exceptionally well. Each selection got good hand. Closed strong. A safe booking even in the early two-a-day. LA VINE-CIMARON TRIO, Com. Acro:- 15 min. F.S. On at 7:39. Scene represents interior of a Physical Culture school. One works eccentric and the other straight, and the girl in soubrette costume. This is a lively act, which includes some contortion, acrobatic stunts and comedy, all or which is very good. Received laughter and applause throughout. Big applause at the finish and three curtain calls. This act can certainly wake up any house in an early two-a-day spot. ELSIE BOEHM, Viennese Baritone:- 9 min. in 1. On at 7:54. Advance hand. Sang three songs, all of them well applauded. This little girl has certainly a phenomenal voice and the novelty of it pleased. Closed very well, with three curtain calls. COATES & GRUNDY, "Watermelon Trust:- 32 min. F.S. Close in 1. On at 8:02. This is a good Vaudeville act. The three girls all sing well. The comedy certainly caught on the house strong. The two men, one working straight and the other eccentric, and three girls, all good performers, in three changes of costume. The comedy work is some of the best we have had for a long time, and kept the audience to roars of laughter. Both men dance exceptionally well. Closed very strong with four curtain calls. Considering the length of this act must admit that it is phenomenal in many respects. CLEMENT DE LION, Billiard-balls manipulator:- 14 min. F.S. On at 8:34. This man has a great novelty. The manner in which he makes billiard balls appear and disappear has everybody mystified. Not only that, but he is a man of fine address, and his broken English rather adds to the act than detracts. KEEFE & PEARL, "The Yodler & the Harpist":- 13 min. in 1. On at 8:48. This act seemed to please all parts of the house. Gave three selections which were well applauded. The evening work was far better than the afternoon. This is a safe booking for an intermediate spot. NANCE O'NEIL & CO, "The Jewess":- 19 min. F.S. On at 9:01. Aside from Nance O'Neil this act is not very impressive. The first part is very talky and not at all convincing. It is only at the climax (when the Jewess pronounces her curse upon her faithless lover) that the house is seriously impressed. However, the finish justified the headline billing, and was strong enough to bring three curtain calls and a strong hand. For a headline feature, support is unspeakably bad. CHRIS RICHARDS:- 12 min. in 1. On at 9:20. This man had a very hard spot to fill considering the abundance of comedy that had gone before. His songs are very much of a Music Hall order and it takes some time for an audience to get on to his brand of humor, and his eccentric dancing and his advance applause started and kept up til she appeared, when she was greeted with a storm. As the "Evening Telegraph" says to-day, "--it was one of the biggest demonstrations ever pulled off at Keith's and proved that Miss Tanguay is the most popular feature in contemporary Vaudeville". The advance sale is immense and the promises of big business is borne out by the evidence. CUTS & OBJECTIONS:- WATERMELON TRUST:- Gag,-"I got one for you, but it's gone now" after scratching head. Fingers to nose. Comedian-- Omit corsets from make-up at finish of act.
