Saving...
(2) Irene Franklin, assisted by Bert Green. On at 3.26, 21 min, in 2. Miss Franklin was a very large-sized hit with us this afternoon. The act is well worth three hundred dollars, and possibly a hundred more, but when they begin to talk six hundred and seven hundred and fifty for another season, it seems to me to be entirely out of reason. But what else can you expect from a vaudeville act that makes one of the successes of the season? Richard Golden and Company. On at 3.47, 26 min, full stage. Golden is a great favorite in Boston, and went big this afternoon. He has a capital vehicle, one that is interesting from curtain to curtain, and contains many bright lines. There is some pathos, which is well blended with the fun. As a delineator of down-east character golden is Cressy beaten miles and miles. A good investment. Fields and Ward. On at 4.13, 18 min, in 1. Opened and closed with brand-new medleys, which are extremely good. The talk which they sandwiched in between contains many laughs. Made thoroughly good this afternoon. Duffin-Redcay Troupe. On at 4.31, 8 min, full stage. I don't think that I have ever seen a better casting act than the one they did this afternoon. They worked without a miss and did some very sensational stunts. Kinetograph. On at 4.39, 23 min. "Life on an English Reformatory Ship"; quite interesting. "What a Razor Can do"; a very good comic. "Wise Mike", Foster's Dog. On at 5.02, 16 min, in 1; 3 shows. Made his customary hit today. I would not hesitate to use this act at 3 and 9 if necessary, for Mike is certainly a marvel. No better value in the business for the money. Robertson and Fanchette. On at 5.18, 15 min, full stage; 3 shows. A series of character songs in costume, fairly well done, the familiar tough boy and girl being the best. O.K. as a 3-a-day, but hardly as a 2-a-day. Dorothy Randoll. On at 5.33, 12 min, in 1; 3 shows. Never again. Al Mayer should know better. Will scold him tomorrow. Cuts: Several of a minor nature in the act of Melville and Higgins. They gave no serious offence, still I thought it wise to remove as much of the burlesque atmosphere as possible. Comment. While this show did not move as smoothly as hoped for this afternoon, still it has the elements of a pleasing bill, and I think that the re-arrangement made will bring about the desired effect. The revised running-order is as follows: A Overture B Farnon, Wills & Ransley C Martin Brothers D Juno Salmo E Dixie Serenaders F Ella Snyder & Co. G Melville & Hig. H Duffin-Redcay Troupe I Fields & Ward J Franklin & Gr. K Richard Golden & Co. L Kinetograph M Foster & dog N Robertson & Fanchette O Dorothy Randoll
