Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of April 13, 1908. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.) The show this week is a pretty good one altho I wish I had something other than Houdini for a headliner, whose value seems to have gone as far as Providence is concerned. Seeback. Bag punching act. Good 3-a-day turn, could open the show in the smaller 2-a-day houses. 10 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows. The Boldens. Colored team. They got by fairly well in this spot. 11 Min. in 1, 3 Shows. Delmore & Oneida. Well-known perch act which always pleases. 12 Min. in 2, can work in 1, 3 Shows. Sam Stern. Character singer. This fellow has the possibilities of a very good performer. If he could get in the hands of some one to train him a little bit I think he would make a very good single entertainer. He opens with some Jew parodies, changes to an Italian with stories and song, and in this place on the bill, scored very well indeed. 15 Min. in 1, 3 Shows. 48. Farrell-Taylor Trio. Two men in blackface, woman in white. Well-known musical comedy act that did fairly well. 22 Min. open Full Stage close in 1, 2 Shows. Prince [Kokin?] Japanese juggler. A clean, neat act, but nothing of an extraordinary nature. 14 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Annie & Effie Conley. Two rather good-looking young girls in a sister act that was quite a disappointment to me in view of what I had been led to expect of them. It is simply a sister act, a trifle better than many that we play in the 3-a-day section. Their last song is all that saves the act from falling flat. I see no reason why they shouldn't be doing three shows, or why they get the salary that they do by $50.00. 12 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Albert Whelan. Australian entertainer who pleased most decidedly yesterday afternoon and evening audiences, but I would say very forcably the salary that he is getting is all that he is possibly worth. To increase it would be foolish. 17 Min. open Full Stage, do a short close in 1, to accommodate me, 2 Shows. Three Renards. One of the greatest aerial acts we ever played. A positive sensation. Could be made headliner almost anywhere. 8 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Spenser Kelly & Frederic Rose. Vocalists. Didn't hold up as well as on previous Occasions, principally because of the fact that they are using material that the publishers are paying them for. I had quite a set-to with Mr. Kelly on account of this and he promises to use some other songs for the rest of the week. He acknowledged that he was being paid to sing "Sweetheart Days", which is, by no means, the kind of song a man of his ability should be using. 14 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. "The Operator." A very tense and thrilling dramatic episode that fits in very well in a vaudeville bill, but it should be surrounded with plenty of comedy, at least followed gy a good lively act. 15 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Laddie Cliff. The unquestioned hit of the show. One of the cleverest singing and dancing comedians I have ever seen. 15 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Houdini. Failed to incite any interest in spite of his new trick. It is too bad that we have got to play him all around this season. I shouldn't want him for another five years at least. 25 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Motion Pictures. O. K.
