51. APRIL 13, 1908. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. Youna, Juggler:- 20 min F.S. Man and woman in Japanese costume. This makes a ripping opener. The man has profited by the work of the Japanese jugglers whose feats he has imitated with remarkable assurance and grace Each feat got good hand. His paraphenalia is brilliant, and the whole act is showman-like. This man could hold an early spot in the two-a-day section with credit. He needs encouragement. WILLIAM CRAVEN, Accordian:- 10 min. in 1. This man is very clever with this antiquated instrument. He gives various imitations and musical selections, all of which are done musicianly and are well worth hearing. His selection Sullivan's "Lost Chord" got big hand. Closed well. Good act. FORESTO and Dog:- 13 min. F.S. close in 1. This is a fairly novel and interesting act. The man begins with some ring work and then proceeds to ground tumbling, assisted by a dog which does various stunts with him. Received considerable applause. The dogs, or which there are two, are well trained, although the work at times seems a little bit rough on the dogs. Close in one with good applause. McCREA assisted by POOLE, Sharpshooters:- F.S. Same act as presented here before. 8 min. On at 8:13. One of the best markmen in the business and if he were only as much of a showman as Bordervery, would be a sensation. Poole is a marvel for nerve. The expert shots got good applause and the close was strong. PHIL BENNETT, Vocalist:- 10 min. in 1. On at 8:21. Advance hand. Bennett is a local favorite and everything he did went well. Each one of his selections received strong hand,- two curtain calls. MR. & MRS. GENE HUGHES, "Suppressing the Press":- 24 min. F.S. On at 8:31. Second time of this sketch here. Not as strong as last time. Bright idea and fairly well presented. The audience appreciated all the clever lines and gave good applause. One curtain call. The woman in the case lacks spirit and conviction as compared with her predecessor. LEONA THURBER & PICKS:- 12 min. in 1. On at 8:55. Miss Thurber makes fine appearance and sings pleasingly. The four little coon kids make four changes of costume. They work very hard and get lots of laughter and applause. Three curtain calls at finish and strong hand. CAPT. GEORGE AUGER & CO, "Jack the Giant Killer":- 20 min. F.S. On at 9:07 Advance hand. This act has been greatly improved since it was here last. It is much more finished and there is more comedy in it now. It is an excellent children's act and ought to draw some money this week. The new costuming is very brilliant and adds greatly to the act. Good closing hand and four curtain calls. LEW HAWKINS, Monologuist:- 15 min. in 1. On at 9:27. Advance hand. Delivered some of his old stuff, but the major portion of it was new. Both the talk and the parodies went well. Took particularly strong with the "Teddy Bear" song at the finish. Two curtain calls.
