(2) La Scala Sextet. On at 3.53, 19 min, in 1. A really good soprano would add fifty per cent. to the value of this act. At present, money considered, I had about as soon have the Basque Quartette, while the Romany Troupe is surely twice as valuable. Houdini. On at 4.12, 22 min, full stage. He presented as his feature his new "can trick", in many ways the greatest stunt he has ever performed. He did not draw the business that I looked for this afternoon, but I nevertheless think that he will pack them nights, and that he will do well next week, after we have been able to do some special work with him. Kinetograph. On at 4.34, 20 min. Showing "The Sleeping Beauty", an extremely pretty colored film. Would be great for a holiday week. We will show this only at the afternoon performances this week. Owing to the uncertainty of the time that Houdini will occupy at night, we have made up a reel of three comics, the only new one being "Billy's On Fire", a pretty good film. The others are "Beauty Parlors" and "A Haunted House", commented on last week. The La Velles. On at 4.54, 16 min, full stage; 3 shows. They do several styles of dancing of the acrobatic order. A very valuable 3-a-day, would make good in an early spot almost anywhere. Delmore and Oneida. On at 5.10, 10 min, in 1; 3 shows. Well-known perch act that always does well in this house and will fill a spot as late as 2.30 and 8.30 with us with credit. O'Clare, Smith and Fermier. On at 5.20, 17 min, full stage. Playing an Irish sketch called "A Kerry Courtship", which is inclined to drag a bit, but could be easily made a very satisfactory vehicle. Mr. O'Clare tries to be a Chauncey Olcott, but he did not reach the mark this afternoon. Possibly he would come closer to his ideal if he was not apparently handicapped by hoarseness. Miss Fermier is a pretty girl and a good actress, playing the character of a Kerry colleen very well indeed. Mr. Smith, as the father, also did a good piece of work. While this is by no means a headline act, still it could be made a most acceptable offering. Cuts:- Joe Deming. Mention of the word "Hell". Requested to substitute another song for his last one, which we considered a trifle risque. Quinn and Mitchell. Cut "To hell with your father". Comment. A pretty good sort of a bill with which to surround Houdini, although it is lacking in comedy. A big laughing act in the place of one of the quieter ones would work wonders.
