65. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of April 27th, 1908. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.) The bill this week, following the excellent one of the previous week gave most universal satisfaction. It is a show that if we had had it in the heart of the season, would no doubt have drawn us considerable money. There is not an act in the entire bill, but what in it's way, makes good thoroughly. Kalmos. International dancers. Nice little act for the 3-a-day section. 10 Min. in 1, 3 Shows. Kelso & Leighton. Comedy sketch. Very good 3-a-day offering. Would be all right in an early spot in the small 2-a-day houses. 15 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows. Youna. Equilibrist, with the Japanese style of juggling. Very nice act, good enough for almost any show. 18 Min. in 2, can open and close in 1, 3 Shows. "We Need The Money." Comedy dramatic sketch. In making the engagement for this act I engaged "Ruth Allen & Co" from Mr. F. F. Proctor, Jr. Without any notification whatever, the Co. came here without Miss Allen, Miss Jane Gordon taking her place. I have no real fault to find in the matter as Miss Gordon played the part very well indeed, and Miss Allen's name meant nothing to our people, but it might have been otherwise and it seems as if some one has neglected to do what they ought to have done, by not sending me any notification of the change. The act is a pretty good one, though not great. Thoroughly all right for the amount of money paid. 22 Min. Full Stage. 2 Shows. Robinson, Parquette Trio. Two men and a woman. Well-known colored act that scored first rate. 15 Min. in 1, 3 Shows. Terley. Impersonator or famous men, by the living bust. Decided novelty that scored quite a hit. 10 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Madge Fox. Comic songs and a few stories which pleased thoroughly. 15 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Goolman's Dogs, Cats & Pigeons. A very much out-of-the ordinary animal act, one of the best we ever played. 16 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Vernon. Ventriloquist. Mr. Vernon is doing his entire act in 1 this week and is getting away with it in a satisfactory manner although I believe the act is somewhat handicapped by it. Still he makes good, and it helps the lay-out of the show. 15 Min. in 1. (Usually Full Stage) 2 Shows. Viola Gillette & Geo MacFarlane. Singing sketch and a very excellent one. They are good-looking people, dress well, have excellent voices, and scored very strongly with yesterday's audiences. They are doing a very long close in one for me, almost ten minutes, and I am figuring with them now the advisability of doing their entire act in one. They will probably try it this week. If they can do so it will be a most valuable acquisition to that class of acts. Will report upon that later. 20 Min. open Full Stagem close in 1, 2 Shows. Joe Welch & Co. We have never had a more artistic or a better received dramatic sketch than that Mr. Welch is giving us this week "At Ellis Island." Six curtain calls was his reward at the end of the act last night, and that is "going some" for Providence. The calls were not forced, they were absolutely genuine. There is not a doubt but that he will draw his salary to us this week, if we have anything like cool weather. 25 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Elinore Sisters. In their new sketch "The Actress and the Maid", which was the usual big scream. 20 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Martinetti & Sylvester. Very good comedy acrobatic act. 10 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O. K. NOTE: This is the last week of our current vaudeville season, therefore this will be the last report until our season reopens next September. Would be very glad to receive reports from the other managers during the Summer months.
