APRIL 27, 1908. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. ALVIN & KENNY: Ring-act:- 10 min. F.S. On at 7:10. Makes a very good opener. One works straight and the other eccentric comedy, the straight work being on the flying rings of the regulation kind. The comedy is of the knock-about order and secures a few scattered laughs. One or two of their stunts got good applause. Close was fairly strong. THE GREGSONS:- S. & D.:- 12 min. in 1. On at 7:20 Man and woman in two changes of costume both of which are quite artistic. Practically the same act as presented here before. Songs fair. Both of the dances got fair hand. CARTER-TAYLOR CO:- "At Camp Rest":- 15 min. F.S. On at 7:37. Man and woman. A camp scene with a sole woman camper in attendance. A tramp intrudes in a burlesque automobile. The comedy that follows is of a nondescript order, being a burlesque on a little of everything from melodrama to grand opera. The finish is the best part of the act, containing some good rough comedy that won a curtain call. Just about held its own in this early spot. BEN FRANKLYN TRIO, Voc:- 15 Min. F.S. Open and close in 1. This is a local act. Man and two little girls both of them mere infants. One sings very daintily and the other is sung to while swinging in an illuminated swing decorated with flowers. Act got considerable applause. Will change places on the bill (from afternoon show) and brought down to this spot.-7:30, as the act seemed to please the women very much. MINNIE KAUFMANN, Bicycliste:- 10 min. F.S. On at 8:07. Makes very stunning picture and does the regulation cycle stunts for which she is famous. Assisted by Chinko in supe uniform. Good applause throughout and strong finish. AURIE DAGWELL, Vocaliste:- 11 min. in 1. This vocaliste has not much of a voice, but has a pleasing manner and sings the old songs that would get applause even without much expert vocalism. Held the spot very well and closed with two curtain calls. CHINKO, Juggler:- 11 min. F.S. On at 8:28. This English chap reminds one a great deal of Laddie Cliffe. He does a good many of the Chinqevali stunts and many more that are original. The female assistant helps him in the act and makes a very pretty picture as well as being a good helper. Received good applause. This lad is certainly worthy to be given all encouragement. The finishing feat of throwing plates clean across the stage and catching them before they fall got a big hand and two curtain calls. Will certainly be one of the big ones if he keeps on. KNIGHT BROS. & MARION SAWTELLE:- 15 min. in 1. On at 8:39. There is no discounting the hit that these people made with their eccentric dancing. The singing numbers amount to little, but their comedy is really clever. They got five curtain calls at the finish and the audience would not let them go, so that Miss Sawtelle was obliged to make a little speech. Good act to wake up any house. (Their work needs to be watched for cuts.) Her singing does not amount to very much, but the various dancing stunts and change of costume are quite fetching and make good in this section. MARTINEZ & MARTINEZ:- Musical act:- 15 min. in 2. On at 6:55. Fairly good musical act using mandolin, guitar, xylophone, saxaphone, banjo, etc. Need a good deal of work to occupy a more important spot, but managed to win out very well. GENERAL REMARKS:- This is a big show, as we have been advertising it. The press and our patrons seem to be thoroughly of one voice.
