78. MAY11-08. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS. GOYT TRIO. On at 7:14, 10 min. Full stage. Man and two dogs. Work on a high pedestal. Act consists of hand-balancing on canes, bicycle-handles, billiard cues, etc., and the work of the dogs. The latter are remarkably well trained and get a good hand for their stunts. Act makes a very good opener. BENIER & STELLA. On at 7:24, 10 min. In one. Very fair little act. Benier has a cultivated voice and Miss Stella makes a good appearance, dancing well. Mild hand at the finish. HARRY & KATE JACKSON. On at 7:39, 21 min. Full stage. This is a fairly good three-a-day sketch. Parts of it drag, and the ending is obvious from the first. However, the act contains some amusing situations that win laughter and a little applause. The finish was fairly strong. Just about holds the spot with our crowd. ELSIE FAY & BOYS. On at 8:29, 15 min. In one. A pretty girl, dancing well and singing acceptably. The boys have poor voices and sing lamentably out of tune. Without their wooden shoe dancing they would make no impression. Three changes of costume, closed fair with two curtain calls. The act as a whole has gone back since last appearance here. KEELEY BROTHERS. On at 8:14 15 min. Full stage. One works straight, the other comedy Rube. Use double bag-punching apparatus. Comedy good and bag-punching very expert and novel. The final stunt of keeping five bags in motion at once, and particularly the burlesque boxing match as an encore, got a big laugh and two curtain calls. An act worthy of a good spot on any bill. W. L. [WEEDEN?] & L. TAYLOR. On at 8:00, 14 min. In one. Were very well received by our audience who always appreciate good songs and interesting pictures. Miss Taylor has a voice charming in quality and of sufficient volume to fill a big house to make the right impression in the illustrated-song line. The pictures are beautiful. Two curtain calls and strong finish. RYAN & RICHFIELD. On at 9:22, 29 min. Full stage. Sketch well known. Full of genuine character humor and presented in a manner that commands admiration. Laughter and applause frequent. Close hilarious, with two curtain calls. LILLIAN TYCE. On at 9:10, 12 min. In one. Sings Irish character-songs with spirit and some appreciation of humor. Sang four songs. Applause after each song. Closed well. "A NIGHT WITH THE POETS". On at 8:44, 26 min. Full stage. A decided hit. The same act as presented here before, but much improved. Vocal work of the quartette so good that the jury would not let them go, making them sing seven songs. The act is finished and classy and would make good anywhere on any bill. Four curtain calls. CUTS. Keeley Brothers. Reference to boxing a corpse. Digby Bell. Reference to gentleman going to hell.
