86 N. S. Hastings Cleveland, Ohio. May 25 '08. LA VINE CIMERON TRIO. Open in 4, special set, close in 1. Time 19. Two men (one straight, one B. F.), one woman. Knockabout acrobatics and dancing. La Vine's black face comedy and reckless tumbling especially good. A strong opener. JAMES CALLAHAN and JENNIE ST. George. In 4, special. Time 23. An uncommonly satisfying vocal and instrumental act, livened with frequent touches of real comedy and pathos. Applause big. MELVILLE and HIGGINS. Man and Woman. Time 15. Soft shoe dancing, singing, and much clever talk. The audience roared all the time. SIX LITTLE GIRLS AND ONE TEDDY BEAR. Time 15. In 3. Lively dancing and good singing by girls not very attractive. Most of their ensemble work is new here, and Everett Scott as the Teddy Bear is pleasingly funny. The act made good with breath to spare, but it is not a big hit. BOWERS, WALTERS, CROKER. 3 men, comedy rubes. Their acrobatics and comedy went with a scream. Time 15. Open F.S., closed in 1. Great comedy dancing. MELBOURNE Mac DOWELL and VIRGINIA DREW TRESCOTT. C.D.F. Time 17. Presenting "The Oath". This playlet tells the story of a Grecian princess who is bound by a reckless vow to marry her servant. Undoubtedly Mr Mac Dowell and Miss Trescott are finished artists and their earnest dramatic work carries the act well. There are absolutely no comedy reliefs, which may hinder its success in the long run. The modern setting detracted from the general conviction of the act greatly. They should carry a special set of suitable setting to round out the atmosphere. However the audience undoubtedly likes their work and sincere applause came after each speech of unusual intensity. A condensed version of Fanny Davenport's "[Giamonda?]." STELLA MAYHEW. Also Billee Taylor. Time 18. Miss Mayhew is singing her old songs in her own inimitible way. She is a big hit here and received a hearty advance applause as soon as she came on. She scores three real curtain calls. CARLOTTA F.S. Time 10. A few ancient and poorly executed bicycle tricks, followed by her big sensation of "Looping The Loop". This feat alone however, although instantaneous, more than made up for the fizzle of the first of her work. People were talking about her as they went out, and that's the answer. THE KINETOGRAPH.
