107. JULY 6-08. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS. LIGHTNING HOPPER. 17 mts. in two. One of Mr. Jordan's "finds." This boy is very clever with his charcoal. He draws various fruits and vegetables and develops them into human faces and forms. His small line of talk is all in rhyme and some of it is very clever. He varies the monotony of the ordinary caricature work by drawing figures and developing little surprises, such as drawing a coon escaping from a chicken-coop, reaching in his hand through the paper and pulling out a live chicken; also drawing a boy smoking a cigarette, and caricaturing Roosevelt with exaggerated teeth, upon which he plays a patriotic tune a -la Xylophone. He closed by drawing a picture of Taft, then reaching through the candidate's top hat and bringing out a dove, which flew up into the second balcony with streamers of red, white and blue. Good applause throughout. This will develop into a very novel act because the man has ideas. LESLIE THURSTON. 12 mts. in one. Another good local "find." This young lady plays the popular airs on the Xylophone in an acceptable but not in an extraordinary style. She holds number two spot on the bill with credit. Fair applause. MAJ. JAS. D. DOYLE. 17 mts. in one. A Lilliputian with only a fiar line of talk and selection of songs. Rather a weak number even in an obscure spot. Do not care to play him again, as he would not make a strong enough impression. BOB, TIP & CO. 19 mts. Full Stage. Two men, one working straight, the other eccentric, and two of the best trained dogs we have seen here for sometime. The eccentric work of the comedian is particularly amusing, and caught the children all over the house. They employ horizontal bars, suspended rings, etc. the man working straight an being a good gymnastic. The act altogether pleased very well and could hold a good spot in the two-a-day auction. SUE SMITH. 12 mt.s in one. Four changes of costumes, all of them being very pretty. Sings acceptably. At the price, she is a bargain, for could hold an early spot in the two-a-day section. THE MILITARY OCTETTE. 23 mts. Full Stage. Close in one. About the same as was presented here before, only much improved and perfected: The costuming and scenic-effects are new and very effective. Act would make good anywhere now and should be a hit throughout the West during campaign season. Good applause throughout and strong finish. COOK AND SYLVIA. 13 mts. in one. This is an excellent singing and dancing duo. The buck and wing work of Cook on the dancing mat is particularly spirited and skilful and got strong hand. WORK AND OWER. 7 mts. in one. Comedy acrobats, both working eccentric. Use table, chair and tumbling mat. A good act, introducing some clever acrobatic work and plenty of humor. The act took well. Received a good closing hand. LOVE WALTZ. 36 mts. Full Stage. Same act as presented here last week, just as brilliant and as well received. Makes a hit with all parts of the house and worked up to a strong finish. An act that THE CHING LIOS. 11 mts. Full Stage. This is a very good act from a three-a-day standpoint. The action moves swift, and their tricks are clever. Well costumed and paraphernalia is up-to-date. Received considerable applause. A local pair that need encouragement. GENERAL REMARKS. A good warm weather show at a reasonable price, and seemed to please throughout.
