Boston Show, Week of August 3, 1908. Carl D. Lothrop. (Monday afternoon, August 3--Afternoon Show.) Overture. On at 1.31, 9 minutes. Juggling Barretts. On at 1.40, 13 minutes, full stage, three shows. The comedian of the old three Barrett act and the boy, who is now a young man. They are doing a lot of new work with straw hats, and the act should develop into a very good juggling novelty. Of course, the comedy is not particularly strong, but the work with the hats is original and good. Strong enough to open almost any show, and well worth $80 to $100 for a season's booking. XX McConnell Sisters. On at 1.53, 12 minutes in one. Two very pretty young girls, who do a sister act on the conventional order, but their youth, good looks and vivacity make one forget that it is conventional. With more experience and proper material, these girls will be heard from in the future. XX The Van Der Koors. On at 2.05, 11 minutes, full stage, 5 minutes close in one, 16 minutes in all. A comedy magic act, that is out of the ordinary. As it stands to-day I would rather have it on a bill than Martini and Maxmillian, or Ziska and King. Well worth $100 to $125. XX Fiddler and Shelton. On at 2.21, 18 minutes in one. These two colored boys certainly did score this afternoon. Their stuff is thoroughly up-to-date and is done in a most workmanlike manner. I would rather have their act to-day than Cole and Johnson with their chorus of wenches, particularly when the difference in salary is taken into consideration. XX1 Three Renards. On at 2.39, 9 minutes, full stage. At $175 there is no better value in a sensational acrobatic novelty than this. The act shows showmanship from start to finish. The girl is possessed of a most magnetic personality, and her graceful posings and bows are no inconsiderable part of the success of the act. I know of no other similar act. Will score a hit on any bill. XX1 Mattie Lockette. On at 2.48, 11 minutes in one. Although I have known her work for several years, and always considered her clever, still I must confess that I was surprised at the way in which she filled her place this afternoon, for she made no small hit. She is dainty, magnetic, has some good songs and does two neat dances. XX1 Exposition Four. On at 2.59, 18 minutes, full stage, 3 min. close in one, 19 Min. in all. These boys lived up to the reputation they have established, of always being abreast of the times with their selections, those they played this afternoon being all recent hits. They have also got some new costumes. A standard act that always makes good most emphatically in this house. XX1 Kinetograph. On at 4.25, 31 minutes. We are showing this week, some specially taken pictures of salmon fishing, moose hunting and trout fishing in Maine and New Brunswick. These pictures are simply great. We have them through the courtesy of Boston's favorite sportsman, Dr. Heber Bishop. It is possible that they may be obtained for exhibition in other cities. Any one interested can communicate with me and I will be pleased to furnish them with information. The salmon fishing and moose hunting pictures make about a twenty minutes feature, in case the whole series is not wanted. Comment. An extremely good summer show.
