Saving...
(Boston Show-Week of August 31st, 1908. Monday, August 31st.-Night Show) Carl D. Lothrop. Overture-7.05-8 minutes. Blanche Henshaw. On at 7.13, 10 minutes in 1. (3 shows) "The Heinie Girl", a German comedienne with songs and wooden shoe dancing. Makes a good appearance but lacks voice and magnetism. Would just about get by at #2 in the small towns, but that's all. X1. McNamee. On at 7.23, 10 minutes in 2. Can work in 1 or full stage, as needed. (3 shows) Well known clay modeler whose act always makes good. Excellent value for the money, $50. Would not hesitate to give him a place in the early two-a-day section if necessary. Look out and have him cut his comedy Irishman if your town is strongly A. O. H. XX. Young American Five. On at 7.33, 16 minutes in [?] (3 shows) The best act I have ever seen them do. A neat, clean [illegible] turn. Nothing startling about it, but still it would be sure fire at #2 anywhere outside of the big cities. XX. The Dandy George Duo and Their Dog. On at 7.49, 12 minutes, full stage, special drop. This is the proper billing of this act-not Dandy George and His Dog. Man and woman in some acrobatic and contortion work. The woman is a wonderful contortionist, working on a mat and also on a trapeze. Some of her stunts are equal to anything Charmion does, although she hasn't Charmion's personality. After about 7 minutes of the acrobatic work in which the dog is used at times the dog and the man finish the act together with some novel work. The dog is wonderfully intelligent and capitally trained. Altogether a very good novelty act. Nobody will regret playing it, I am very sure. Deserves a better spot. XX1. Melnotte Twins and Clay Smith. On at 8.01, 20 minutes in 1. To my way of thinking this is a better act than when Whiting was in it. Smith is a dapper looking young chap and is free from Whiting's Rathskeller airs. Did not care to play the act with Whiting but will be pleased to repeat it with Smith. Would make good for us as late as 9.30 and would play it much further down the bill if I could this week. XX1. Myers and Rosa. On at 8.21, 13 minutes, full stage. (3 shows) One of the best values in vaudeville today. An act for $100. that will make good on any bill. They look well and both the man and the woman are blessed with personalities that attract an audience. Their juggling work is out-of-the-ordinary, while their tricks with lassoos are as good as I have ever seen. A breath of novelty that is most welcome. XX1.
