RePORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF SEPT. 7, 1908. Charles Lovenberg, Manager. The bill is hardly as good on the stage as it is on paper. I believe it will play better to our regular audience than to the holiday crowd, to whom it was a little high-class. Some of the acts that I looked for for big things fell down a little bit. Hits were made in the following order: Six American Dancers, Violet Black & Co., McNish & Penfold, Dick Crolius & Co., R. C. Herz and Selma Braatz. Brandon & Wilson Two young people in a singing and dancing act. All right from a three-a-day standpoint. 15 Minutes in Two, 3 shows. Griddelli & Manna Local Italian singing act. Will not recommend them for the circuit. Alrona Zoeller Trio Comedy acrobats. All right for three shows or to open the program in the smaller two-aday houses. 12 Min. Full Stage, 3 shows. Brown & Hodges Colored people advertised as "Indian" cartoonists. Good little novelty. All right for the early two-a-day section. 12 Min. in One, 3 shows. McNish & Penfold One man white, the other blackface. A lively act, that got plenty of laughs. Thoroughly O.K. for any bill. 17 Min. in One, 2 shows. Dick Crolius & Co. Sketch, "Shorty". This act went exceedingly well in spots, but dragged at times. I think it could be re-written to make a very strong act and could be improved in the supporting company. It is all right to play as it is, however, because it is an unusual sort of an affair. A strong finish brought them a double curtain call. 22 Min. Full stage, 2 shows. Sadie Jansell Mimic. This young lady didn't do as well as I expected she would, but I believe that was due to the holiday crowd not understanding many of her characters. I think she will please our regular clientele much better. 14 Min. in One, 2 shows. Five Musical Spillers. Colored comedy musical set. A novel sort of an affair for colored people. They went fairly well with today's crowd. 17 Min. Open Full Stage, close in One, 2 shows. R. C. Herz Well-known character actor, who, to my mind, gives one of the finest single acts in vaudeville. He, too, was over the heads of the holiday crowd. Feel sure that he will be of value to us the rest of the week. 18 Min. In One, 2 shows. Selma Braatz One of the best juggling acts, man or woman, we ever played. Her dainty personality also lends much value to the act. 15 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Six American Dancers Usual Big hit. 15 Min. in One, 2 shows. Violet Black & Co. Sketch "In the Subway". A very strong and novel act, which held the closing position with perfect satisfaction. 23 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O.K.
