SEPT. 7-08. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS. HARRIGAN AND GILES. Vaudeville Entertainers. 16 min. in one. This is a fairly good three-a-day act. The man sings Hebrew songs very well, his partner not having much of a voice. The line of talk is mediocre. The best thing in the act is the eccentric dance at the finish. MONS. HERBERT. Musical. 11 min. C. D. F. The interest in the act is largely because Herbert works so hard, and a holiday audience particularly likes to see entertainers perspire freely in their behalf. Act consists of an inviting looking dinner table, with flowers, fruit and the usual lay-out. Begins by playing bells concealed in a bouquet of flowers, pipes in oranges, whistles in knives, plates played like a Xylophone, closing with musical cups and saucers. Each selection got a good hand. Could hold any spot in the three-a-day section and even in the early two-a-day. FARNIM, WILLS AND RANSLEY. Conversational and Singing Specialty. 18 min. in one. This is a local act and a very good one. The two girls make pleasing appearances, and while their singing does not amount to much, their dancing is good and the work of Farnim is breezy and confident. Being a local act, they of course received unduly applause, but it is nevertheless an act that could hold a good spot in the two-a-day section with credit. BROTHERS PHILLIPI. Acrobats. 9 min. Full Stage. close in one. An A 1 strong man act. Use high pedestal approached by ladders on either side, and close with work on the mat, in one. Costumes of purple silk and otherwise make a fine appearance. Work of the Bellclaire order, with one or two stunts in head-and-hand balancing that are great. Big applause from the holiday crowd -- in fact very big. DIXIE SERENADERS. Songs and STeps. 24 min., close in one. (F.S.) Four men and two women, all colored. This is practically the same act as presented here before. They open with a cotton plantation scene, with a song and some very good dancing. The work in one is in true minstrel style with tambourine-man and "Bones," and all well costumed. Songs and talk amusing. Closing applause big. A good holiday act. THE ADELMANN QUARTETTE. Musical. 20 min. Full Stage, close in 1. Opens with Numenberg scene with toy-shop hanging full of queer instruments. Adelmann appears dressed as an old woman, the children in grotesque attire of the old time. Act begins very slow, much of the fun being poor comedy for a house like this and better eliminated. The jury seemed waiting for something to happen. The little girl with the drum while the rest with combination play trumpets at last wake the house up, so that the Xylophone work goes big. These instruments are garishly decorated, but the three players get real music out of them and bring the act to a good close. Am anxious to see how the evening crowd take this act, and whether it will be as strong as when Adelmann was here before, for it seems that he has somewhat discounted his reputation by introducing a weak opening as it stands now. CRESTON CLARKE AND CO. in "An Old Timer." 27 min. Full Stage. Big Advanced applause. This is a slender drama, written to display Mr. Clarke's abilities and versatility. The audience certainly liked him for he received genuine ovation. The play is the story of an actor of the Old School who is struggling to keep up his life insurance premiums in favor of his little niece who lives with him. Things go very This act is certainly rightly names, "Vaudeville Nonsense." It makes a good closing feature because it is one big scream from start to finish, with the tallest comedian in vaudeville and one of the smallest in the most grotesque military attire. The fun is rapid right up to the close of the burlesque Zouave act which was a genuine knock-out. For a holiday crowd, this act could not have been improved. KINETOGRAPH. Flight of the June Bug. An interesting film of a timely event that we could wish for. It ranks with "The Dieppe Circuit," and will be talked out. The Flames. A typical French series of colored fantastical figures. NESSEN AND NESSEN. Club and Hoop Jugglers. 11 min. F. S. Well known on the circuit. Their hoop work and club swinging is quite expert and the act could make a good opener for any house. CONLIN AND STEELE. 18 min. C.D.F. Close in one. This act has much improved since its last appearance her and is now one of the best in the three-a-day; in fact, it could hold a better spot in the early two-aday. Would strongly recommend this act for the smaller houses. as it could hold a better spot and make good. In fact, was too good for its position here, and was in "C" on our bill. GENERAL REMARKS. This is a corking good holiday show from every standpoint. The fun starts off from the start and winds up with a good
