Report on Providence Show, Week of September 14, 1908. Charles Lovenberg, Manager. The show is very satisfactory this week. One or two of the acts were a trifle disappointing, but in no way was there any serious fall-down. The Ashers Colored man and woman in the stereotyped singing and dancing usually done by people of this race. Alright for three shows. 13 Min. in One, 3 shows. Dan Mealey. Italian impersonator. Songs and serious story. This act went fairly well in a spot a little lower down in the bill. Was moved up to give preference to Harlowe & King, altho he held the spot satisfactorily. 10 Min. in One, 3 shows. The 3 Hanlons Hand balancing and comedy acrobatic. Don't overlook this act. We have brought many an act from Europe for more than double their salary that are not as good. They made a decided hit with today's audience. Would make a splendid opening act for the smaller two-a-day houses. 11 Min. Full Stage. 3 shows. Harlowe & King Man and woman, comedy talking and singing, with a little eccentric dancing. Miss Harlowe is quite a clever comedienne, but the man is hardly up to her standard. The act is exceedingly good in spots and weak in others. They have a novelty finish, however, that carried them off to good applause. Exceedingly good three-a-day act and O.K. for number two in the smaller cities. 20 Min. in One, 3 shows. Hickman Bros. & Co. Comedy sketch, "A Detective Detected". This act, while not bad, was somewhat disappointing. It seems that the vehicle is better than the players. it is alright for this spot, but no better. 15 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. The Berkes Man and boy, singing, dancing and talking. Good little three a-day act or number two in the smaller towns. 12 Min. in One, 3 shows. Dandy George Duo Reviewed from Boston last week. Can only add that they held the spot here with perfect satisfaction; in fact, made quite a hit. 14 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Carson & Willard Will review after seeing tonight. Butler & Bassett Novelty skating act which met with success. 10 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Lillian Shaw I also want to see this act again tonight before reporting. The Patriot" Stange and Edwarde's one-act Grand Opera. First presentation by this company and first performance this season. I consider this one of the best novelties vaudeville has ever had, and one which is bound to draw money into the theatre. It is an exceedingly strong feature and in spite of the heaviness of the music went well with the audience. For a first performance it ran remarkably smoothly today. Should be played in every house that can afford it. 25 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Jack Wilson Trio With a lot of new material, this act was practically the hit of the show this afternoon. 25 Min. in One, 2 shows. Piccolo Midgets. Well-known Lilliputian act that scored as usual. 14 Min. open in One, close full stage. 2 shows.
