Saving...
-2- Leonie Pam. On at 8.22, 14 minutes in one. I am still wondering why, and so are many in yesterday's audiences. Miss Pam is certainly not a hit, in Boston. I seems to me that we could fine 50 such acts for about $75 per. Nerve seems to be her strongest asset. X1 Russell Brothers. On at 8.36, 17 minutes, full stage, 3 minutes close in one, 20 minutes in all. Got a mild reception both afternoon and evening, seemingly for "auld lang Syne." Not a word or move have the brothers changed in twenty years, and as age is telling on them, they have both lost their sprightliness. Jimmy's stuff did not go with its old gusto, while John's singing of the "Shannon" song was but a memory. Miss Russell is a fairly good toe dancer, but would not attract any individual attention. To my mind the act is no longer a headliner for vaudeville. Can be classed as XX, solely from the way it went with old friends. Paulinetti and Piquo. On at 8.56, 10 minutes, full stage, 2 minutes close in one, 12 minutes in all. Much to my surprise they presented practically a new act, made up of a few bits from the old one and a lot of stuff of the Collins and Hart style. At present it lacks smoothness and quick action. While it would undoubtedly make good in almost any house in its present shape, it is not as valuable as the old act. XX Doherty Sisters. On at 9.08, 12 minutes in one. These girls did practically two acts to-day. The one they did in the afternoon contained so much coarse material, that I was forced to cut two songs entirely, and modify some of the rest of their matter. The act they did at night was bright and lively. The act they did in the afternoon would undoubtedly be a big hit in many of the New York houses. On Evening act XX Bert Coote and Co. On at 9.20, 25 minutes full stage. Am pleased to say that Mr. Coote scored heavily. While his sketch will not stand a close analysis, for it is very much of a hodge-podge, still it has some capital situations, and Coote himself is simply immense. Great value for $300. XX1 John J. Hayes. On at 9.45, open 10 minutes in one, close 6 minutes full stage, 16 minutes in all. Undoubtedly a drawing card, and a winner for any house that can make a big feature of an act of this kind. Certainly a great attraction for newspaper work. The motion pictures are very entertaining, while Hayes himself has a most interesting personality. XX1 Toozoonin Arabs. On at 10.01, 9 minutes, full stage. Hassan Ben Ali has ten of his best men in the act this season, and it is a whirlwind. Our patrons never seem to tire of this act. XX1 Doherty Sisters. Changed the "Directoire" song and accompanying costume, and the baseball song, also some of the dialogue. These girls can do either a vaudeville or a burlesque turn, apparently. Comment. A show that is almost entirely without class. Bert Coote and Co., the Arabs, and Phil Bennett being practically the only ones eligible to the first cabin. The others are mostly steerage. In its entirety the show would be a knock out for the old Howard.
