145. Report on Providence Show, Week of Sept. 21, 1908. Charles Lovenberg, Manager. After straightening out, this will no doubt be the best playing show we have had this season. It looked this morning as if we might have no show at all, as the Fun In A Boarding House set is made to stand and is twenty-eight feet wide and ten feet deep. We were wondering what we were going to do with it during the remainder of the show. At the last moment, the carpenter of the act decided that if he could have a half hour in one he could strike it at each performance, this necessitating bring Griff down toward the bottom of the bill and without him I don't know what we would have done. Theatres with small stages must make sure of conditions before booking this act. Tom Dugan Messenger Boy. Parodies and stories. Pretty bad. 12 Minutes in One. 3 shows. Dolly Burton's Dogs. Fair little act, which finishes strong with some excellent leaping. Very good for three shows, or as an opener. 15 Min. Full Stage, 3 shows. Harrigan & Giles Man and woman, Jew songs and stories. Alright for three shows. 15 Min. in One. 3 shows. Avollo & Othello Man and woman. The man does some of the best contortion work we ever had in the house. Could hold a spot in the middle of a bill. 9 Min. F.S. 3 shows. Cotter & Boulden Man and woman, singing and dancing. Fairly good act, which finishes decidedly stronger than it begins. 16 Min. open in two, close in one. 3 shows. Harry Allister Impersonations of famous men. Good act. 15 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Nelson & Otto Two women in an act similar to Franklyn & Green, altho not nearly as good. They are alright, however, if not depended upon for too much. I think, however, that $150 should be about their gait. 20 Min. in One, 2 shows. Ida Fuller. Well-known spectacular dancer, who gave us the best act of the kind we ever had. 13 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Chas. F. Semon A number of new gags and some new music brighten his act, and he was about the hit of the show. 23 Min, open and close in one, 2 shows. Chas. Hawtrey & Co. Dramatic sketch, "Compromised". A very good playlet, with some excellent work by Mr. Hawtrey and some rather bad work by his leading woman. At the salary, he should be made to get first-class support. 25 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Griff Juggling Clown, who held this spot very satisfactorily. 22 Min, open in Two, close in One, 2 shows. Fiddler & Shelton Colored men, in piano playing, singing and imitations. Good lively act, who, with the show thirty minutes late, made a hit. 18 Min. in One, 2 shows. Fun In a Boarding House This act was a scream, altho it got on exceedingly late. In its proper place, I expect it to be a riot. 20 Min. Full Stage, 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O.K.
