149. Report on Columbus, show Week Sept. 1st. --08. W. W. Prosser. JACOBS DOGS: Three trained fox terriers which are used by the master for the purpose of juggling, balancing etc. All of the work is pretty good and for an opener the act was O. K. 12 minutes, Terrace in 3. RAE & BROSCHE: Man and woman in a comedy skit "A Woman Of Few Words. The man opens the act in One with a monologue which makes a fairly good impression, the act goes to C. D. F. and the remainder of the act consists cross fire conversation between the man and woman. They just about got by and that is all. -- However the house was small and the weather terrific for heat, enough to kill almost any act. 18 minutes C. D. F. THE FOUR KEATONS: The opening of the act, that is the comedy acrobatic work won a few laughs as did the finish with the "kids". -- The remainder of the work jusding from its reception was worth little or nothing. In fact the act seems to outlived any value and I hope I never get it again. 22 minutes wood in 4. finish in one. SIMMONS & WHITE: Well known act but one absolutely without value. They fell flat the last time I had them and most successfully repeated the feat this afternoon. -- This act may be O. K. but the people here don't seem to get on to the fact and personally I would pay them about Fifty for the week. Am going to move them up this evening so as to get rid of the act as early as possible. 16 minutes Landscape in one. MARCELS PICTURES: Nothing need be said except that they went big. The merit of the work is beyond question. 24 minutes special. RAY L. ROYCE: Well known but has not been here for so long that the people have forgotten him. -- He has about the same material I heard him use some years ago but this fact does not operate against him. He had a hard time getting the attention for a few moments but finally did and he then held it until the last moment. Finished quite strong. 19 minutes olio in one. Watermelon Trust: (Colored) Two men three women. -- A lively singing and dancing act that just about saved the show. -- Nothing especially musical about the singing of the women but they dress the stage and make the act really look bigger than it is. Both of the men are good dancers and this part of the act was its success. -- Finished very well and in fact aside from Marcel was the hit of the bill. Palace in four 26 minutes. Finish in one. PICTURES: O. K. I believe I can get more out of the show by rearranging and tonight it will run as follows: Jacobs Dogs: Simmons and White: The Keatons: Rae and Brosche: Watermelon Trust: Ray L. Royce: Marcels Pictures.
