REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF OCTOBER 5th, 1908. Charles Lovenberg, Manager. The show is rather good, though not a brilliant one, playing very quietly and somewhat shy in comedy. Lillian Maynard Singing comedienne. Just good enough to get by in the 3-a-day section if played early. 8 minutes in One, 3 shows. The Lavelles "Knick-knack dancers". Also only good enough for an obscure spot. 15 Min. F.S. 3 shows. Mortimer Bassett Imitator. Fairly good. 10 Min. in One, 3 shows. Owley & Randall Comedy juggling sketch. Always a reliable little act, sure to make good if not depended upon for too much. 11 Min. F. S., can close in one, 3 shows. Amy Anderson & Co. See Boston report - only more so. 12 Min, open in One, close in two. 2 shows. Billy Beard Blackface comedian. Mr. Beard failed to land and was consequently moved up to this spot, exchanging places with the Kaufmann Brothers. 17 Min. in One, 2 shows. Adelmann Quartette Described in previous reports. Early part of the act not liked by the audience. Finish went fairly well in the afternoon, very strong at night. 15 Min. F. S., close in one, 2 shows. Margaret Wycherly & Co. In a dramatic sketch, "The Locked Door". This one-act play resembles very much in style, altho not at all in plot, those given by Robert Hilliard and I consider this fully as good. For first performances it went extremely well and by the middle of the week should develop into one of the best dramatic sketches vaudeville now has. Everyone understands that Miss Wycherly is one of our best known leading women and was co-star with Arnold Daly in New York the greater part of last season She also toured the country in Yeats' Irish plays, consequently the name has value and that fact, added to a sketch that makes good, should cause the act to be in demand and be a valuable proposition. The supporting company very good. 25 Min. F. S., 2 shows. Donald & Carson Scotch singing and talking act. Did not do as well as last year. 23 Min, open 1 1/2, close in one, 2 shows. Willy Pantzer Troupe The hit of the show. 15 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Kaufmann Bros. Blackface singing and talking act, made quite a hit, 12 Min. in One, 2 shows. Hawaiian Trio Two men and a woman, special scenery, opening with some singing and instrumental work, using peculiar kind of guitars, finishing with a "Hulu" dance by the woman. A hit. 15 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Johnston & Harty The show ran very late this afternoon and these men had tough sledding, but I cannot in the wildest flight of my imagination see how they can possibly be worth $250. $175 would be good pay for the act. Never again at that price. 12 Min. in One, 2 shows. Newhold & Carroll This act should not be closing the show, but I had nothing else to put there. At an early spot and their salary they are all right. 9 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O. K.
