NOV. 2-08. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS. MME PAULA. Trapeze. 7 min. F. S. Makes an acceptable opener. Her work is clever and she makes a good appearance. Nothing very startling or novel, but at the same time she got good applause. J. WARREN KEANE. Sleight-of Hand. 17 min. in one. Man has a good line of material and a pleasing way of presenting it. Received considerable applause throughout and closed well. As an unpretentious magic act, it is all right. FRED ZOBEDIE. 10 min. F. S: This remarkable contortionist and acrobat made his usual good impression. Really one of the most skilful acts of the kind in the business. THE WORTHLEYS. "On the Beach." 16 min. F. S., close in one. Opens in 1 1/2 showing the boardwalk of a seaside resort. Closed in one, showing the ocean. Two changes of costume. The lines are rather clever, the songs original and fairly well sung. The dancing is one of the features of the act, which made on the whole a good impression, receiving good applause, but not quite up to expectations. The closing hand was only fair. THE ATLANTIC CITY FOUR. 19 min. F. S., close in one. These boys were very nervous today, this being their first appearance in vaudeville. However, they were well received, both solo work and their quartette singing showing good drilling. Songs well selected. They vary their act with selections on banjos, mandolin, piano and guitar. Think the act will run much smoother after they get their bearings, which will take a day or so. Closed very well. This act will develop into a very good vaudeville feature, and should be encouraged. THE WILLY PANTZER TRIO. 12 min. F. S. Well known act which always makes good, being not only ver expert in all the feats, but with abundance of comedy thrown in. Introduced a new little chap who is certainly a wonder in the acrobatic line, and not only won big applause for his work, but also for his fun. Big laughter and applause at the finish. Every time these people come back, they bring new and better stuff. Now the act is one of the greatest ever; in fact, today the audience would not let the two little fellows go. An act that will go anywhere on any bill. CARRIE DEMAR. Comedienne. 20 min. in one. Good advanced hand. Made a stunning picture in her very fetching gowns. Good selections of songs and all of them sung in a very sprightly and winning manner. Her closing song, "The Lonesome Fluffy Ruffles," was a great hit. MR. & MRS. GARDNER CRANE. "Pixley's Prodigal Parents." 28 min. F. S. This sketch is in Mr. Crane's best vein, and compares very favorably with his former act which was always a scream in this house. The plot is a simple one and is a story of a young couple who simulate quarrelling and separation proceedings in order to bring to their senses the wife's father and mother who have separated through a misunderstanding. There was laughter and applause throughout, and it is filled with clever lines and ludicrous situations and business. The closing hand was immense. Like Crane's former act, it is sure to be a great hit over the Circuit. CHARLEY CASE. Monologuist. 18 min. in one. Well known on the Circuit, particularly a favorite here. A good line of new material, all very amusing. Held the audience throughout. Closed strong. BARRISON & HOWARD. "My Big Sister's Beau." 20 min. F.S., close 1 TOM BATEMAN. Dancing. 12 min. in one. This man sings well and dances better. His skipping the rope while he dances a jig is really very skilful and got a good hand. PAUL STEVENS. One-Legged Acrobatic Wonder. 8 min. F. S. This man is really a remarkable athlete, considering the fact that he has only one leg. this gives him the sympathy of the audience right away. He seems to make the best use of his other three members and does gymnastic work on his hands and afterward slack-wire work on the one leg, pole jumping, etc. This act makes a good opener. "ALTHEA." 10 min. in one. A very pleasing little vocalist and dancer and good for anywhere in the three-a-day section. Was very well received. GENERAL REMARKS. While the show this week is not quite so strong in headliners as last, it really is a cracking good show; has a number of features that will be talked about and plays off well. Commencing with tomorrow, Election Day, we look for big business, which undoubtedly will follow for the balance of the season with President Elect TAFT soon to go into the WHITE HOUSE.
