Report on Columbus Show week Oct 5th. -- 08. W. W. Prosser. Brothers Phillipi. Two men in an athletic act that while it is not especially in advance of many we have had of this order, the work is all clean cut and very well executed. -- Several of their stunts were accorded applause and the act finished very good. Satisfactory for an opener. 8 minutes Palace in 4. George H. Wood. Blackface monologuist. He opens with a song which did not seem to hit them very hard. The launched forth with a line of humorous comment in which there were many point[s] that went home and several of the best that for some reason were missed. -- This man fooled me for I thought he was only going fair but when he finished there was a stro[ng] manifestation of approval showing that he had his auditors more firmly held tha[n] I suspected during the delivery of his talk. -- I think he will go very well with the night houses, and to his credit be it said that his vocabulary is far more extensive than one usually meets with in this class of performer. 20 minutes olio in one. Scott & Wright: A man and woman in a comedy musical sketch that simply shook hands with every one in the house and held the undivided attention from beginning to end. -The scene is novel here, the story exceedingly pretty, and well developed and told, the singing perfectly satisfactory, and the dramatic interest thoroughly sustained throughout. -- The act went big and the success was well earned. Would there were more like it. Special landscape in 4 23 minutes. Edith Helena: She made a good substantial hit and left nothing to be desired. 11 minutes in one. Quigley Brothers. A [sort?] of a comedy grotesque act that barely got by. They are doing at The Toll Gate. No particular merit in it but really could not be classed as bad. Landscape in 4. 12 minutes. The Elinore Sisters. They are popular here and went as big as ever. no fault to be found. 24 minutes wood in one. The Patriot: A One Act Grand Opera by Stanilaus Stange and Julian Edwards. Seven excellent singers in the cast. -- The story is one of absorbing interest and the music so far above the usual thing in vaudeville that I fear to comment on it without the aid of a musical dictionary. Suffice it to say that the act was watched with unflagging interest from beginning to end and that the curtain brought five or six recalls. We have never had anything any better in fact nothing that compares with this offering as it stands alone. I was afraid that it might be over their heads but it seems not judging from the reception accorded it. Without a single fault, and a distinct credit to author, composer, cast, proprietor, and any house in which it appears. Special interior set 23 minutes. Pictures: O. K.
