Saving...
REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF DEC. 14, 1908. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. An excellent bill - one of the best of the season. More than a half dozen of the acts were decided hits. Nedder Trio Singing, dancing and drawing of famous men in black and white - two men and one woman. A little three-a-day act that is alright in the continuous houses as a time filler. 15 Min. F. S. 3 shows. Hennessey & Son A man and boy, singing and talking, alright for an unimportant position. 13 Min. in One, 3 shows. Adams & White "A Musical Farmyard". A good idea gone to waste. Alright for three shows. 12 Min. F. S. 3 shows. Sam Elton Closed after even. show because of illness This act is decidedly passe. Altho in justice to Mr. Elton I will say that I am told he is ill and not doing his best. However, my report on him last season was that I did not want him again, but I have him in spite of myself. 12 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Overing Trio Three children, one of the hits of the bill. An act which should be played in every house where children can play. 17 Min. in One, 2 shows. Anderson & Goines Colored team who came with considerable new material and scored strongly. 20 Min. in One, 2 shows. Isabelle Evesson & Co. In a condensed version of "Niobe". Miss Evesson's support is not as good as it should be and the condensation is not as good as could have been made. I think the act with a better company and a little work on it would be acceptable in those houses where Miss Evesson's name has any value, that is, in the cities where she has appeared in stock. The act is not bad. In its present shape it may be called fair and should improve some as the week goes on. 20 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Ray Cox This girl seems to grow better upon each visit until now I consider her among the best of the comediennes. A decided hit here today. 22 Min. in One, 2 shows. Walter Law & Co. To my mind this is one of the best written sketches in vaudeville - ranking in class with those which Bob Hilliard has given. I could have played it here as a headline and gotten away with it. It is excellently played by Mr. Law and fairly so by his support. Magnificently mounted, scenery and dressing all that could be desired. I will say that the support is as good as he can probably afford with the salary he is getting. With two people as good as himself, mounted as it is, the act would be worth $500. I don't have to give the impression that the support is bad, for it is acceptable alright to play anywhere, I merely want to say that anyone who could kick at this act even if they were paying $100 more must be hard to suit. Had its time been cancelled, which seemed iminent at one time, a mighty good act would have been lost to us. 17 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Hyams & McIntyre In "The Quakeress". Another decided hit - this act a big improvement over the old one, and judging by the applause and laughter fully worth the salary we are paying. 28 Min. of continuous success. 2 shows. Open in One (10 Min.) close F. S. "That" Quartette Altho these people went very well, my personal opinion is that it is NOT the best quartette in the business. I love "The" Quartette better. These people get by on "That" Quartette Altho these people went very well, my personal opinion is that it is NOT the best quartette in the business. I love "The" Quartette better. These people get by on their volume, rather than quality, making more noise than music. 15 Min. in One. 2 shows. Harry Howard's Ponies and Dogs Met with its usual success. 12 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Motion Pictures O.K.
