Saving...
BOSTON Show, Week of June 21st, 1909. Carl D. Lothrop. (Monday, June 21st--Afternoon Show.) Overture. 1.46, 13 minutes. Swan and Bambard. On at 1.59, 10 minutes, full stage. Can do a three or four minute encore in one if needed. One of the standard acrobatic comedy acts. Can open any show most satisfactorily and should make a suitable closing act for many houses. Rastus Brown. On at 2.09, 16 minutes in one. This coon comedian and dancer looks to me like a genuine find. He is a rough diamond at present, but with a little polishing he can hold a spot on any bill, for he is one of the greatest hard shoe dancers I have ever seen. He can do a ten minute routine of nothing but dancing that would be an absolute knock-out. Doing this I think he could hold any place that Joe Britton could. A cheap act that should be cinched for next season. W. H. Mack and Mae Phelps. On at 2.25, 14 minutes full stage. Could do.a close in one or the entire act in one if necessary. Owing to conflicting reports I was a bit worried about this act but am pleased to state that my worries were entirely unnecessary for the act held this spot very satisfactorily. While it will never be a headliner nor a great big hit, still it has a number of bright lines, the people look well, Miss Phelps really can sing, Mr. Mack is a good light comedian and they both dance acceptably. Is much above the average act that we get for $100 to $125. Ollivotti Troubadors. On at 2.39, 13 minutes in one. One of the most artistic and thoroughly satisfying musical acts in vaudeville. Really a standard attraction. Always a hit in this house. Millman Trio. On at 2.52, 13 minutes full stage. From the standpoint of the people who pay to see a show I think this is the greatest wire act we have in vaudeville to-day. Bird Millman is an absolute marvel and possess a most magnetic personality. The younger girl is also a remarkable performer, while the work of Millman himself is much out of the ordinary. The only possible faults to be found with the act are the lack of really swell costumes and the fact that some people seem to think Bird is getting a bit affected and is losing some of her bright, breezy and ingenuous manner. manner, moving smoothly and at a fast pace, there being something doing on the stage every second. Would like very much to play the act again next season, but I understand Tschernoff sailes for Europe next week. Kinetograph. "A Trip to the Wonderland of America--Yellowstone Park."--One of the best films of the season. Should interest any audience. Cuts-- Mack and Phelps--Expression "I Love My Wife." Ralph C. Herz--Reference to "Mother-in-law." Comment. A crack-a-jack show, one that would be a "riot" in the regular season, and not very expensive at that. The places of the Hillman Trio and Eva Taylor were changed at night.
