C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 6-09. LOUIS GUERTIN. 13 min. F.S. Second appearance of this man here. He certainly is the goods in the jumping line, and made a mighty good opener for a holiday house. Dresses his act fairly well and has a rather pretty assistant. Seemed to be a little out of practice or else was nervous because he missed several very difficult stunts. Nevertheless, closed with a rapid hurdle jumping feat that got a good hand. MATTIE LOCKETTE. 11 min. in one. Very pretty girl who does a dinaty turn, both in juvenile impersonation and character songs and stories. Good applause and closed well with a cute dance that got an encore. AL. RAYNO'S DOGS. 8 min. F.S. Made a hit the last time Rayno was here, but today it was simply a riot. The screams and laughter of the children could be heard all over the house. Act has improved a good deal in swiftness and humor. A great act for the children. ARTHUR RIGBY. 13 min. in one. got the crowd from the first. Good line of talk, much of it new. Laughter throughout. Closed very strong with an eccentric dance and a little speech of nonsense. HOWARD TRUESDELL & CO. "A Corner in Hair." 23 min. F.S. Has been described before. This is a good sketch and full of laughs. Think it's the best sketch Truesdell has had. The act is very well presented, and scored big up to the finish. BOWERS, WALTERS & CROOKER. 13 open and close in one. It is unnecessary to say that these three comedians were one solid scream during their entire act. MARIE DRESSLER. 13 min. in one. Big advance applause. Marie certainly give them the best in her comedy vein today, and the crowd were right with her. Everything was new to this house, and all went with unusual vivacity and dash. She could have remained twice the time and made good. Closed with her characteristic encore. Have billed Miss Dressler very strong, and she will undoubtedly draw as well as previously, for she is a great favorite here. "AT THE WALDORF." 41 min. F.S. Another typical Lasky production somewhat reminiscent of its forerunners. The stage set and costuming are elaborate, the cast good (although the voices of the girls are not very strong), both young men and women making a fine appearance in several changes of stunning costume. Kipling's Vampire recitation scarcely belongs in a Waldorf production, but it got a good hand, nevertheless. Erickson is a character comedian out of the ordinary, and gets a good deal of real fun out of his part. This was especially hard for him today following so many laughing hits. The close with the dinner act is very brilliant. Altogether a very classy musical comedy in little. Big closing hand. KINEOTGRAPH. "Franco-British Exposition in London." Good travel film. "The Hand Bell." Characteristic French comedy. GENERAL REMARKS. No one could wish to have a stronger Holiday-Week bill than this. It opens the Fall season with a genuine Keith "boom!" There is not one weak spot, and the running time was exactly as planned without a change.
