53 NEW YORK SHOW: WEEK NOVEMBER 10th: STEREOPTICON: - NH-3, KILLEEN & MURPHY:- Two men in an Irish comedy sketch; one of the old-fashioned Irish acts with nothing new whatever in it. Can be called fair at the opening of the bill. 12 min. full stage, ; can close in one if necessary. NH-3, CHESTER B. JOHNSTONE: Bicyclist. One of the original Johnstone Bros., team and a very clever performer indeed. Some of his trick work is equal to that of many higher priced artists. 14 minutes; full stage. HR-3, KATHERINE NUGENT:- A young girl who gives imitations of different actresses. She does fairly well and can be classed as a good act from a three-a-day standpoint. 9 minutes in one. NR-3, MILT & MAUDE WOOD:- In an alleged comedy, singing and dancing act. The comedy is not very apparent. The man is an exceptionally clever dancer, and I think, did more new steps than I have seen any other performer do in a long time. The woman is a very good contortionist in a way, but her work is hampered by her size, she being very fat and chunky. Could call thee act good. 15 minutes; full stage, closing in one. AR-3, PASCATEL:- Acrobatic and contortion work in the air, the first of his act being dine on a pole, and the last on a trapeze. He is a good performer in his line. 7 minutes; full stage. NH-3, JOHN T. POWERS:- eccentric comedian. This performer was put in this morning to take the place of a cancellation, and he just about gets through. He got quite a number of laughs, but there is nothing whatever original about his work. Was obliged to cut out several bits of his material. 10 minutes, in one. GMH-2, LA TROUPE FANTASTIQUES:- Three pretty young ladies who have a spectacular stage setting, and introduce some very food clog dancing using nothing but music from "Faust". The act is a very pleasing novelty. The girls look and dress pretty, and the dancing is exceptionally clever. 12 minutes, full stage. YRR-2, COLE & JOHNSON:- Two colored comedians who repeated their success of the previous week, with an almost entirely new repertoire of songs. 25 minutes, full stage. AH-3, FRED STUVER:- banjo solos: and I guess, about the best in his line in the country. He does away with that strumming feature on the style of mandolin playing, which the majority of them use, and goes back to the old system of picking, and I don't think I ever heard his execution in that line equalled. 14 minutes, in one. GYH-3, GORMAN & LAWSON:- Gorman was formerly of the Three Gorman Bros., and the Lawson is a young girl named Lillie Lawson, who is a very good soubrette and dancer. Their act is a mixture of singing, dancing and reparte, and while not in any sense a big act, is still a very pleasing one. 16 minutes, full stage. GRR-2, WILL F. DENNY:- Topical and comic songs. Mr. Denny represents a type of which Tony Pastor is the only other living representative that I know of in this country. He has a remarkably good voice, and his dramatic action is first-class. He had three or four songs that I never heard before, one or tow of them evidently being of English origin, and he made a distinct hit. 15 minutes in one. YRR-2, MR. & MRS. CHAS. T. ELLIS:- These people have a new act called, "The New Girl", and they have struck an especially timely subject for a sketch. It gives Mrs. Ellis better opportunity than she has ever had before in any of their acts, and she improves them to the fullest extent. The act is new yet and naturally did not run as smooth this afternoon as it will after a few more performances, but I think they have the best medium they ever had and that will develope into a strong comedy sketch. 20 minutes, full stage. YRR-2, FISHER & CARROLL:- Eccentric talking comedians with almost entirely new material since their last appearance here, two or three years ago, and they went very strong. Carroll has an irresistibly funny personality and his very appearance is conducive to laughter. Their stuff is all bright and they know how to deliver it. They made a big hit. 20 minutes, in one. YHR-2, THE SAGGASSESNS:- The first New York appearance of this couple since they went to Europe five years ago, and it goes without saying that they made a hit. I think he is the funniest pantomimist in the World, and gets more laughter out of a small amount of material than any other performer. It was simply a howl from the time he came on until the curtain went down. 15 minutes; full stage. KR-3, BIOGRAPH:- Not a particularly strong selection of views this week. 12 minutes in one. S. K. HODGDON.
